I've been listening to all the reactions to Stringer's death and very few football people are willing to admit there is any real problem. They are on the defensive.
It is impossible to change the mindset of the player, no other sport is more like war than football, they would rather die in the trenches than to admit they are sick or scared. So it is up to the league and organisations to protect the players from themselves.

The problem is much worse in high schools who don't have the money for
trained medical staff to watch over things.

All I know is that every time ONE boxer dies from a boxing related event everybody is up in arms to do something about boxing. Same thing with car racing. 20 kids died last year on football fields, I think the number is higher. I don't think there were anywhere near that many deaths in the boxing ring.

Mutt you are also right on about football... I think it has more to do with the "Football Tough" attitude.

IN the old days coaches would not give players water to toughen then up, and crazy notions like this.

Obviously size does matter - the tremendous weight on some of the linemen does inpact on the players. However, I think proper precautions, and attention everyone would be fine.

If someone wants to take a break and drink some water - let him - does not mean his is a pussy.

The Saints have this machine that tests the water content of a player, if it hits a certina level he is taken out and has to hydrate.

Jaws was great and what is really surprising is the fact the book was kind of lame. I think Peter Benchley is overrated as an author, except maybe "Beast" and even that was weak at best....

Deep Blue Sea wasn't bad...just hard to get into it after all the lame Jaws sequels...Shark, one of Burt Renyolds' first movies, was pretty good too...
