Ulfie, I agree with the revenue sharing. It's tough to watch teams get picked apart because of it. To me the biggest disappointment was when the Florida MArlins went out and bought up a bunch of high priced players, make it to the postseason, then have a firesale the next year, just to pump up the sales value of the team....that's a big "fuck you" to the fans...The Padres did the same thing a few years ago...not being able to afford players in one thing, but it's worse when an owner does something like that...

What baseball REALLY needs is shared TV revenue. Pirates get $6 million a year, Yanks get $250 million. How do you compete with that? We're going to end up with a system where NY, LA and Chicago are the only cities with teams. I really wish the idiots that run baseball could see that because I'm tired of watching players like Moises Alou, Barry Bonds, John Lieber, etc. getting traded away every year because we can't afford them anymore.

Enforcer, as someone who enjoys the Cubs, I agree, Wrigley Field is amazing. Something I loved to do when I was in Vegas was attend the Las Vegas Stars games (they are a Triple A affiliate of The Padres and are now known as the 51's). Seats behind first base were $5 and we got to see a lot of players who are just about ready to "make it big" as well as the odd veteran who was on the team as a motivator and/or minor league contract. So, if you don't mind the occasional sloppy play, minor league baseball is a great, cheap getaway for the whole family and for someone like me who's just a huge fan for the game itself, it's a great afternoon.

With regards to player salaries, I think the best should be paid the best...let the market decide what that is. Players are making record salaries, but baseball is also seeing packed houses (except a few of the smaller market teams). People are still going out to see some of the best in the game play every night...I can't really blame the players sometimes...if I can make more money why should I turn it down? Sure, it's just a game, but it's also a multi-billion dollar business ;)

As a baseball fanatic, I can say it's been a l;ittle tough over the years with all the labor disputes between millionaire players and billionaire owners, as well as the umpire problems.

The games themselves are exciting as hell though (ok, I'm a life-long Braves fan, so for me the last 10-12 years have been a fan's dream...until postseason that is ;)))

We had the McGwire/Sosa chase of Maris 2 years ago, last year Sosa and McGwire tried for it again, this year we have Barry Bonds chasing it. We had Cal Ripken hit a homerun in his last All-Star appearance...Canseco has made a great comeback (so far)..we have teams who weren't expected to do much of anything (Twins, Phillies, Mariners) have great years...it's been a great year and a lot of exciting games. Seeing new superstars emerge, seeing other stars hit their twilight years and retire on positive notes (Gwynn and Ripken, both of whom have only played for one team their entire careers).

As a baseball fan, I'm having a great year (ok, my roto team sucks...geez, a 15-14 game and the only guy on my roto team in the game was Burks, who went 0-2).

KB - That was a heck of a game. I was shocked to see the bullpen give up so many runs to allow a 12 run comeback. It's been 76 years since a team has come back from a 12 run deficit - and against the best team in baseball is even more of an accomplishment. Normally a loss such as this would be painful, but I know in the end it'll be the Mariners who'll be sliding rings on their fingers at the end of the year.
