KB, I keep upsells in the member areas to a minumum because it's a recurring program and I want my webmasters to know I'm trying to keep them as long as possible. I worry about getting people to spend too much money and then NOT recurring....the only upsells I use are more like content.

I believe some big boys shave, yeah. PMB does not redirect traffic and won't ever. PMB uses ibill, epoch and ccbill's 3rd party accounts. I have merchant accounts and have had to manage million dollar merchant accounts with my previous set up...it's a PAIN IN THE ASS and is almost a full time job in itself...

Short term, I would say we're in for more pain. I do see a tendency nowadays to shy away from hardcore freesites which is good. I think as profit margins shrink, the dirty tricks will get used more and more until they pretty much blow things up bad, and then we can dig out and everybody can make money again. The important thing to remember is that the demand for our product is not going anywhere. There is more money being spent on porn this year than ever and it will continue to grow. That money is just going to smaller pieces of the pie for everybody, causing some discomfort levels that we see today...

Good and bad...it's going to get worse before it gets better. I read an article from Wenchy at http://www.setgo.com today that detailed her difficult experiences getting back to traffic generation. I think that's going to get harder and harder. BUT, I think at some point in the future we will experience a revival of our business and those left standing will be there to claim the goodies..

Good question, Sharky. Depending on the niche, I'd say exclusivity of content and frequency of updates, as well as adding a personality to the site. One of the reasons we've been able to grow retention has been due to talking to our members. We say "Hey, we've got a great update for you today! Sheila sucks Ron's dick and takes a big load on her face...it was REALLY sticky and gooey in real life...let's see what you think"

And crap like that...rather that just a link that has a date next to it...

We do update every day, including weekends, btw...

PMB retention is at an all time high, which I consider pretty damn good considering the state of this industry. When a surfer joins one they get every site we have so there is usally something for everybody if they had any intention on paying for porn at all.

Across the board we are at 45% retention from trial, some higher some lower, and depending on traffic. Some people do much better and some much worse.
