Bono rocked! I've been away from the boards, having lost a very dear friend, Sheila, quite suddenly this past weekend; someone who was like a sister to me, whose sister I named my child for, whose husband and brother were my bandmates in the 80s... So I've been going through all the old photos, pulling out things to copy and put together in a collage for her family. Strolling down Memory Lane is quite a dark and emotional trip when someone you love is not here anymore to enjoy it with you. We did have lots of fun, the pictures certainly tell that story!

And here you guys are talking about glam rock and all the excellent musicians mentioned in previous posts, guys we idolized and who inspired us. Though we were contemporaries of bands like Crue and Metallica and VIXEN (they opened for us once, in fact), we were a very different kind of band for that time, more influenced by R&B and old school blues. We were Grunge before there was a name for it (check out the picture in my tagline). It was the supreme irony that offstage, I dressed the part of the glam/metal bitch to the hilt; onstage, however, I was required to look like a schlub because of our name. One rather cool thing related to my stage wardrobe: There's a scene in "Pulp Fiction" where John Travolta's wearing a t-shirt emblazoned with the Banana Slug, mascot of UC Santa Cruz. That same shirt was one I wore all the time onstage (we even had a song, "Big Fat Slug," dedicated to some bastard who fucked me over back then -- written as a poem on a piece of Slug stationery, set to music a year or so later LOL). The artist who drew the Slug, Marc Ratner, was a friend of mine. Here's a pic in the shirt: http://www.cyber-goddess.com/stuff/pix/poverty1.jpg Anyway, since I'm stuck here at work for another half hour without a fucking thing to do except wish I could get the hell out and on my way to OC for Sheila's wake, I wanted to say thanks for inspiring some MORE happy memories of our "Glory Days," when Poverty rocked and the party never stopped and my Sheila was our #1 fan. She was lovely inside and out, and I'll miss her more than I can ever express. Tomorrow, be thankful to still be sharing this life with the people you love; and make an effort to contact those you might have lost touch with or not seen for awhile and give them some love, because you never know when they won't be here anymore for you to do so. Hugs, my friends! Rox Poverty, an original rock band (c. 1987)

Serge... when i say talk about you.. i don't mean in a criminal sense... i assume that if you were to do anything criminal that you would be smart enough to hide it.. Have you ever studied the boards? It's interesting to see how one conversation switches into another, how the conversations overlap, how they sometimes fade away and sometimes abruptly end. Some participate and some ignore. Some excite and some snore. Never forget to read between the lines. Colin "Ask Colin". Today's Daily Thought.

Ok shoot me now My favorite guitar players Joe Perry and Brad Whitford of Aerosmith Love their sound and interplay Big crunchy back and forth, call and echo Never been much for ever saying anyone is "best" because music and taste are subjective That's just what hits for me ;-) Vick Let the music do the talking

Serge, I didn't realize that there were social classes in Russia. I figured that anyone lucky enough to leave was upperclass? Unless of course Hooper is calling you a "Suka".... Aren't Suka's like the neophytes of Russian society? Is it true that the Russian Dream is to stand in line for only an hour, in an almost freezing drizzle? And now that you're admitting that traffic is dwindling... i'd also like you to take a very very close look at your log files and figure out where 30% of your "traffic" that you made so public comes from.... an ip's look familiar? In fact.. why don't you give Bernard a shout at 775-841-6031 Perhaps he'll be able to struggle past your thick lower class russian immigrant accent... cause i know i cant! Hooper
Colin Al Dimeola is a great guitarist as well. I remeber owning an album by him with a "Black Cat" on the cover?

Help me remeber the album it was a great one...Was it "Electric Cat" or something like that? I am very impressed with the depth and scope of some of the webmasters' on Oprano's board when it comes to their musical tastes. Anyone worship "The Police" like I do? In my opinion that was the best band ever to grace the stage live. Stewart Copeland and Sting till this day make up the best rhythm section I have ever heard live... By far the best rock TRIO ever...
