Petr why are you getting bent out of shape with Serge?
He did not make a personal attack on you at all.
Serge simply pointed an example of concept I was speaking about. It just happened to be a country you are from.
He was pointing out that YOUR people did rise up against Communism in a very tough time. And while they were slaughtered, it did effect the world, and eventually helped sow the seeds of the end of communism in Eastern Europe.
So then you turn it into a personal battle? What gives? Ran out of ideas? Or did you learn how to fight "Afgany" style?
Mon, 12 Nov - 13:25:40 209.19.71.254 Post #: 32296
Serge, exactly. In 1968 the ordinary Czech people wanted to remove the Communist leaders but because they didn't have enough power to do that (and because the Western world didn't help to bring democracy here to my country back then), the ordinary people failed. Thanks for proving my words.
However, I have no idea what this has anything to do with "terrorists, ordinary people and Afghanistan." Are you under the impression that Afghanistan is a former Soviet republic? Is that what they taught you in your Russian school?

Times have changed, our kids are getting worse..
They won't obey their parents, they just want to fart and curse!
Should we blame the Government? Or Blame Society?
Or should we blame the images on TV?
No, Blame Canada! Blame Canada!
With all their beady little eyes, their flapping head so full of lies!
Blame Canada! Blame Canada!
We need to form a full assault, It's Canada's Fault!
Don't blame me, for my son Stan..
He saw the darn cartoon, and now he's off to join the clan!
And my boy Eric once had my picture on his shelf..
But now when he sees me, he tells me to fuck myself!
Well? Blame Canada! Blame Canada!
It seems that everything's gone wrong since Canada came along..
Blame Canada! Blame Canada!
They're not even a real country anyway.
My son could've been a doctor or a lawyer, rich and true..
Instead he burned up like a piggy on a Barbecue.
Should we blame the matches? Should we blame the fire?
Or the Doctors who allowed him to expire?
Heck no, Blame Canada! Blame Canada!
With their hockey hullabaloo, and that bitch Anne Murray, too!
Blame Canada! Shame on Canada..
The smut we must stop.. the trash we must smash..
The laugher and fun.. must all be undone..
We must blame them.. and cause a fuss..
before somebody thinks of blaming us!

Mike AI, have you been to Afghanistan? Or you have all your "info" from books and newspapers? I was in Afghanistan six years ago. The ordinary people are happy if they don't starve to death. They don't really care about politics, they just want to SURVIVE. And all this misery is brought to them by a couple of fanatics who kill everyone who doesn't comply with their "rules".
___________________
No Petr I have not been to Afgansitan, nor do I have any plans on visiting. The point I made about the people being responsible for their governement applies to EVERY NATION in the world.
If the people are bullied by dictators, or mad men who then cause chaos on other innocent people - they should not be suprised when they are relatiated against. To stand back and claim ignorance is not good enough.
People of all nations have a duty to look out for their own nation and to make sure the gov't is looking out for their best interest.
That is why I mentioned the "innocent" Germans who were bombed during WWII.
Now while the United States does not intentionally target civilians, there will always be civilains lives lost - Hence why they call it WAR.
If the innocent, normal Afgans were concerned they would be chasing the Taliban out of their beighborhoods, and masques where they are hiding.
But hey, what do I know?? I have never been to Afgansistan!

My biggest FEAR is that we get used to this sort of tragedy. I don’t want to. Most of the middle east is used to extreme warfare and people dying everyday. Europe had to get used to the plague. Bosnia, Croatia, Ethiopia, etc; all of these countries had to get used to devastating events. I can only hope that we all continue to be outraged by this (even if it is only an accident).
Let's make a concerted effort not to become desensitized.

The little black box will hopefully provide us with some evidence as to what really happend.
Stingers, and other portable missiles would show up on radar, not to mention set off an alarm in the cockpit that there was a threat, and the pilot would have time to radio that situation to ground control. SO, time will tell.

Gary the idea that it was not a bomb because the flight was to low is flawed. This assumes the bombs trigger device was pressure sensitive. The bomb could be on another type of triggering device.
Another issue could be shoulder fired anti-aircraft missile.

Serge, I know and feel your pain.
We have all heard the stories, but here is one that is close to me. This is correspondance from a friend of mine: "It is a long story and a sad one. I am currently the President of a company located in the Wolrd Trade Center. We were on the 83rd floor of the first building hit. I lost 13 people in the attack and destruction of the Twin Towers. We have 37 people that work int he office. We are lucky that only 13 were in. We have spent the last 2 weeks helping out the families and trying to rebuild..."
I also went to Syracuse University and many of my friends went to New York to work. A couple were in the towers.
What good does it do to close the bridges and tunnels in NYC when a suspected terror attack takes place?
Is it to prevent someone from blowing them up or to keep people from coming into or leaving town?
You would think they would at least let people out of town. I would hate to be trapped in Midtown Manhattan knowing something was going on. ZebraInsite Adult

It takes months to determine the cause of air crashes. If you're at war unless it's readily apparent this was an accident you assume it's another attack and act accordingly, whatever that is.

this isnt't partisan because I wouldn't feel any better if Al Gore was in the White House now.
But i will tell you who I wish was in the White House now, Bob Dole. A man who has been battle tested.
