Hmmm as I see it most of the shit happening in the world these years is mostly due to the fact that the state of Israel chooses not the cooperate with the Arab world.
I'm no pro-muslim AT ALL, infact I just voted for Pia Kjærsgaard at the national election in Denmark (very right wing), but until Israel acknowledge that they have to share their land with the Arabs there's going to be war. And it's just fuel for sick fucks like Bin Laden to mess up the world.

Well being an Aussie I know sweet FA about US politics so feel free to correct me if (when lol) I am wrong,
But I think that when Bush first came into office a lot of people were really sceptical about him, his dfence policies and such. Especially when the China incident happened - ppl were really wuick to say "yeah we knew that'd happen - he's been in office for like a month and we have a potential war at hand"
Then that all calmed down, but S11 happened.
I get the 'vibe' from yanks that you are all pretty happy with the way he has gone about dealing with Bin Ladin, and perhaps that's why his popularity increased...but in all honesty I think ANYONE who was presdent at the time would have done the same.
we had sa similar thing happen here - an extremist group called 'one nation' won a landslide victory in a state election recently - and our PM got scared - so he decided to crack down on refugees (one of One Nation's Biggest policies) in order to swing their votes for upcoming national election.
Sure a lot of ppl liked his hardline stance - but the novelty wore off quickly and now he's more unpopular then ever.
I guess the point I am trying to make is that it is stupid and ignorant for ppl to believe that our leaders are doing anything that anyone one else in the same position wouldn't do.
Can you imagine ANY leader sitting back and taking shit from Bin Laden? I think not.

A year ago the Presidential race was a 50/50 split. Today the polls say Bush would get 60% of that vote. Ya know what that means??
It means that 10% of the Democrats woke up and figured it out!! For those 10%.....KUDOS!!

My political views lean towards the Libertarian side as well. So will we ever see MikeAI running for President, Ulfie as VP, Dig for Secretary of Defense, and Todd for Head of Homeland Sex Toy Security on the Libertarian ticket? Would America support us? I doubt it.
My point is that what we do is easy fodder for politicians. Basically, your best politicians are people that have done nothing, stand for nothing, and say nothing. They get elected over and over again because what is there to criticize, they never did anything.
I'm done for tonight, Oprano needs a politics board, I'm sure a lot of people are bored to tears with tonights discussion even though I enjoyed it.
Who the hell owns 9001.com and where can I ram an ICBM up his rectum?

I need some help from the 30-somethings and 40-somethings on the board. I remember a song from my teenage years that I cannot locate, and I can't recall the name of the song or the artist. There really is a legitimate purpose for me asking this. The tune of the song was moderately fast in tempo and resembles the last half of Don McLean's "American Pie" with heavy acoustic piano and acoustic guitar. Some of the words are "Those days of candy apple red ... Cruising with my baby ... Going for a Homerun but getting thrown out at the plate, oh Give me back those days." It was a summertime release, released in the late 70s or maybe 1980. I know this is a longshot, but does this song ring a bell to anyone? Anyone? Anyone? BUELLER?

nobody's going to come right out and be an advocate for pornography Ulfie, you have to look at the legislation that they propose.
Very few demo's advocate or originate any legislation that infringes on freedom of expression, or your freedom to read anything you like or say anything you like short of shouting FIRE in a crowded theater.
Republicans propose so many bills that do exactly that, that it seems to me as if it's their number one prioriy to control the domestic population. They scare me shitless.
Dig, absolute power corrupts absolutely and a balance of power is a good thing. It keeps both sides in check. You are living in a fantasy land if you think either the democrats or republicans are your friends. You are a pornographer, hence, an easy target. Your democrat "friends" will sacrifice you in a heartbeat to gain 1 vote. My Republican friends would do the same. Don't ever forget that.
Ulfie, very true.. one thing that I desperately wish the libertarians would realize though, since I live in the same country as they do, is that their agenda is much better served thru the party they seem to hate most :)
The more conservative the administration in office, the more intrusive they're going to be into your private life and your right to do what you like short of damaging other citizens.
How did the conservatives manage to convince everyone otherwise?
Let me ask you this: who is it that wants to curtail your sexual freedoms, stifle academic liberty and put the church in charge of the state? It sure as hell isn't the demon liberals.
Who wants greater power for the government to eavesdrop and ransack your personal possessions? Again, not those wimpy tree hugging liberals.
Who wants to seize your personal possessions for the slightest of legal infractions? NOT the liberals.
In fact, whether you're conservative or liberal, the ACLU has long been our best friend when it comes to fighting off intrusive government. AND IT'S NOT A SECRET!! I personally don't care if you're liberal, convervative or martian. Don't defend your viewpoint just because you feel like I'm attacking you. All I want is for people to read up and have solid reasons for their viewpoints. If you don't bother to educate yourself as to the actual fine print of the policies you advocate, you're a sucker for every demogogue that comes along...

If you can't even get them to see the problems with Limbaugh, how can you persuade them of the error of their ways with the relatively subtle and tricky ways of macro-politics?
NO I'm not going to get into a political piss, one shot and OUT! ;)
Todd hardly flustered... only impact it has on me is in redistricting. Which may hurt some national Republican races in those states. Other wise, I hope NJ and Virginia enjoy their new Govs.
Bush is doing a fantastic job, the new situation we find ourselves in has helped realign the country to look to important issues - and start cutting down crap like political correctness.
If Bush starts to campaign for some people, things will stay strong.
Liberals have been minimalized, and shown to be the out-of-touch, wackos they are. See how Berekley is doing now?

Serge, no doubt the Israeli Army is no joke and not to be trifled with lightly.. the Arabs learned that the hard way in 1967
One thing that I respected about the mental conditioning we went thru is that I never felt like I lost my identity as an individual, so to speak, I just learned that being an individual doesn't mean you don't have responsibility to the group.
the best thing I learned from the military is that I am EXPENDABLE and the maximum effective range of an excuse is 0 meters :)

I should let Todd talk about this shit, I was just a NoGo puke, what do I know anyway?? ;)
yeah serge, I'm actually a bit familiar with that. The Eastern Bloc mentality was to follow orders no matter what, that 'robot' mentality you talked about.
In the US Army they talk a LOT about 'initiative' which is basically just getting as creative as you need to get to carry out the mission AND being able to adapt to a rapidly changing environment by any means necessary. Israeli army is modeled after the US army.
Israeli army is somewhat different
(I hope Yishai will shed more light on the subject in his interview,
as ALL Israelies go thru military service,
men and women alike)
Solder can ask ANY question and even argue with Generals
(One becomes a general rather early in Israeli army,
40 years young generals is not something unheard of)
but....when in combat,
that's where "pissing" with superiors ends.
