Colin, here is the math problem I need solving...

The board A has 163,000 posts on it and averages 80 posts a day

The board B has 29000 posts and averages 350 posts a day

Q 1) when those boards have equal numbers of posts

Q 2) when the most stupidest sponsor realises than the board with the most interest is a better value than the one which has most paid posters posting?

TIA!

From the NHC:

"..Michelle strengthens to category 4 hurricane... Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 135 mph .. The forecast track moves the center across western Cuba then northeastward across the Bahamas. A slight deviation to the left of the forecast track could bring the hurricane to South Florida. It is still too soon to tell about South Florida."

But Dig, the theoretical physicist has to think of stuff that works!

People say Einstein came up with theory of relativity but some other mathematician/physicists Lorentz (and maybe Poincare, not sure) anticipated in some ways with certain equations. They were precursors but they don't get credit. Einstein brought it to life correctly.

Davinci deserves SOME mention. He does get it. Maybe his idea inspired later correct models. But, it is more of a historical footnote. Is his drawing, beautiful as it is, an invention?

Did you like the bridge?

Wilfred Benitez was the youngest at age 17 to win a title. He was great, that's when i actually followed boxing.

Torone,

As far as the "helicopter"; As great as I think Davinci was, and I admire him greatly, saying he "invented the helicopter" is seriously romancing him.

It's a beautiful design. It doesn't work. That is art. Not invention.
It shouldn't be part of saying "he was a great inventor".

As one example, Lamarck proposed
a theory of evolution that the scientific community does not accept. Darwin's natural selection, for the most part, is accepted as
the modus operandi of evolution. Lamarck is a footnote to history. Da Vinci's helicopter is too.

Colin,

http://www.znojmuz.cz/english/aodivis.htm

"(...)The news on the death of Georg Wilhelm Richmann, professor in St. Petersburg, who was killed by a lightning in 1753 during his attempt at measuring the intensity of electric field in the atmosphere, caused Diviš to become interested in atmospheric electricity, and to the decision to construct a "weather-machine" at Přímětice. Its basis was a metal cross, horizontally laid on a 15-metre (later 41.5-metre) high pole, with the ends of the cross intercrossed with shorter metal bars lying in a right angle. The 12 bar ends were equipped with 12 metal boxes, filled with metal filings and penetrated with some 400 sharp metal spikes. The whole construction was grounded to the earth using three conductive chains. Under the influence of the ideas of his time, Diviš conceived the function of metal boxes as Leyden jars in which the electricity "sucked" from the atmosphere was to be collected. This was supposed to prevent lighting discharges and the occurrence of storms themselves. Even though the function ascribed by Diviš to his "weather-machine" principally differed from that of a lightning rod, it basically was a lightning rod by its construction(...)"

there are people today that if born 500 years ago would have been DaVinci's. The world of knowledge was such a clean slate back then it was easy to make your mark. Now everything we do is incremental. One scientist can work on tiny little thing in a tiny little field his whole life and he may only take that field one tiny step further.

My friend's uncle is a cancer researcher, he's 80 now, he spent his whole career working on something very small, when and if the cure for cancer is ever found, his work will have been a part of it most likely. But nobody will ever know his name.

Da Vinci is arguably the greatest artist of all time, the greatest architect of all time and the greatest inventor of all time. He was also skilled in languages, statesmanship and war theory.

wouldn't you like to have a conversation with him?

and you shouldn't!

SergesCash never bought a single button on ANY boards,
haven't prevented it from taking home more $$$ than RB at it's peak.

Webmasters with your oratorial skills,
ferocity in fights,
charm,
personality,
and apreciation to the art and the place where it's mastered,
can do well without it!

Serge,

Mohammed said that if you go to heaven, you will be surrounded by virgins. Me? I just want Oprano Pearls. Imagine how happy I am today.

"As for the righteous, they shall surely triumph. Theirs shall be gardens and vineyards, and high- bosomed virgins for companions: a truly overflowing cup." 78:31

"In each there shall be virgins chaste and fair... Dark eyed virgins sheltered in their tents whom neither man nor Jin will have touched before" 55:70-77

I hear what you're saying Colin, the pool of knowledge in certain fields is so deep that it takes half a lifetime just to become competent.

Still, a guy like Ben Franklin or Da Vinci was fucking amazing. They could do anything.

Colin, congratulations!

NOBODY EVER made 2! pearls in one day!

Physics students today, for the most part, hate psychology, liberal arts, etc. They should. If they like them too much, it will detract from their studies and they will end up pornographers! Horrible!

IS a Pearl!!!!

any board that gets webmasters together and talking is worthwhile. Oprano gets some big hitters!

pusi.com should be very interesting.. regarding the ad spot, I haven't bought advertising since I opened setgo. Haven't bought much content either, I trade for banner spots :)

Gotta love owning a resource site :))

Dig,

And of course, it is nearly impossible not to. Take a contemporary physicist for example. After 4 years undergrad, 6 years grad, 4 years post doc, they are ready for "Associate Professor". On average, it takes 14 years just to catch up with everyone else before you can go explore.

The system will only now reward those that are most specialized, those that are most focused. Physics students today, for the most part, hate psychology, liberal arts, etc. They should. If they like them too much, it will detract from their studies and they will end up pornographers! Horrible!

Colin, 'geniuses of old' is right. Their knowledge was not only vast it was amazingly wide ranging, and a lettered man was expected to be an expert in many different fields.

Genuises today are specialists from an early age.

The most beautiful sentences a child utters begin "I wonder how ..."

and the most ugly sentences when the child/adult stops asking - or thinking they don't need to ask anymore :-)
