MikeAI -

Is it possible that these billing practices got Websitebilling.com into trouble????

Toolz and Sharky you guys are exactly right...

I stepped out of my office and my phones were ringing like mad. I think this is a new record set here, from me posting to getting phone calls.

There needs to be NO PHONE CALLS placed to me... I think the people responsible should address their peers here in the public forum!

Lee Noga, what is your take on this? Ron is your boss, are you comfortable associating yourself with these type of business practices?

Ron? Send out your spin meisters. Tell everyone how I am lying and full of shit, trying to start contraversy to make my program better, or to get business for Oprano.

Fact is I am not promoting my program on these posts, and Silvercash is an advertiser on Oprano. Though I am not sure for how long, I am sure Mike will pull the advertising.

But unlike other people I am no whore... nor am I a theif.

Of course I could be totally off, maybe my browser had some problems - maybe this scam is NOT really going on.

Mike, the customer never even is informed that he's also joined another site? Jesus, it would be bad enough if after they joined a Silvercash site they were suddenly told "Hey Bud, we know how big a perv you are so we took the liberty to hook you up with another porno site. Don't bother to thank us, we like to make our customers happy!".
But you're saying these unwitting customers aren't even aware that they are now members to the second site, Cybererotica in this case.

Nice. Well, since CE has a big file at the FTC, it should be really easy to narc on them if that's what somebody wants to do. Nothing makes a fed happier than to finally get somebody whose lawyers got them off the hook.

Exactly, Toolz. Upselling/Cross-selling under very clear terms and disclosure is one thing. I still don't like it cuz surfers are dumbasses for the most part and the potential for abuse is huge....but I can see it being used legitimately. Banging a card with no disclosure is going fuck us all even more and is one of the reasons the biz is so tight right now already...

I think the term they would prefer to use is Cross-selling.

I think it can be done right, with full disclosure and no tricks. It doesn't sound like this is the case for sure!

I was just telling Mike on icq that a lot of us webmasters never hear about this kind of scamming. And yet we hear about conversions being down, and ftc investigations, etc. This shit is just the kind of thing that will bring down the industry, and even internet commerce itself. But I guess as long as it makes _some_ people money, then it's ok for the rest of us paeons to suffer.

The lack of forethought by some people in this business simply amazes me.

Sharky,

Cross-selling? This sounds more like throwing something in your shopping bag after you've paid and billing your credit card when your gone.

Cross-selling to me is when you buy a walkman and they hit you up for the batteries at checkout.

Very true MikeAI. So many people are scared to step on their toes.
In reality, you would be surprised at how many companies use these same practices.

It is a shame.. and I could only hope that something will be done. There needs to be full disclosure on the cross-selling methods.. and from what you posted, it doesn't seem like there is!
It will only harm our industry as a whole if these practices continue.

Sharky, these kind of scams are like a cancer. The Gov't comes in and stops it in one area, and it will go away - but then it pops up in another area.

It amazes me how these people are hailed as players and leaders - but in reality they are THIEVES.

I guess if one steals enough, and in inventive ways they are no longer theives, but innovative businessmen!

What I find suprising, (and I do not know why I do, because 95% of the people in this indsutry are cockhoslters or pussys) is that not many people speak up about this.

Do YOU not realize that SilverCash and CE are putting this entire industry at risk? Do you not relize that these companies are hurting YOUR BUSINESS and your future?

They are theives - period. But instead of having a gun, they use a mercahnt account to STEAL from people.

Actions like this put major pressure on this indsutry:

1) ruin Credit Card databases for processing comapnies. ( wonder why conversions are down, why re-occuring is down, why CCs are being rejected?)

2) Do you think surfers who get theri credit card slammed are going to ever join a website again??

3) Are you going to be surprised when the gov't steps in?

We as an industry continue to be our own worth enemy... we continue to give ammunition to our critics, and will never be taken as real business people - merely rouges!

Yet No one says anything, I doubt I will get much response to these post... Mike and Ron will be hailed as visionaries - and the same bullshit will continue... until one day there will be no more adult business, and most of you ( those who have not put money away) will have to go back to serving fries at Wendy's....

OK a serious issue has been brought to me by a few friends. One thing that has hurt this industry is the secretive cross billing that continues to plague us.

This cross billing is killing re-occuring databses, making it more difficult for Credti Card processors to accept cards and get sales. It also harms consumer confidence in our indsutry, because many consumers are getting robbed.

As business gets tougher and tougher these scoundrals keep pushing the evelope more and more to generate sales and try to rip people off as much as they can.

The latest example comes from SILVER CASH.

get this....if a customers joins one of Silver Cash's sites right now,
1.) Silver Cash collects the cc info on a non-secure page before going to the processor
2.) after a customer joins, he gets a link that says that it didn't get through and to click here
3.) clicking that submits another transaction for CE ( Cybererotica) through website billing...no notice of another site or crossbilling and NO receipt

Everytime I think this indsutry has a hit a low point, some cockholsters come about and knock the pegs down a little lower.

So Mike from Silver Cash, are you comfortable making money like this?

Ron Levi, Fantasyman from Cybererotica - is business this bad that you have to steal from people?? Do you know that this is going on?? If not, are you going to end it?

Some people will do anything for a buck...

Monk,

Those stats reflect both increased traffic and having a back-log of galleries on TGP2s.

I've published elsewhere that average CTRs on TGP2 galleries are currently 10x what they are on TGP1 galleries. 6k uniques/day of TGP2 traffic to galleries is equivalent to at least 60k uniques/day from TGP1s with massively reduced bandwidth bills. TGP2 is very successful.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

but the same can be said for Christianity too...any religious zealots are dangerous, be they Islam, Christian, Hindu, Shinto, Satanist, Pagan...hell even us non-religious athiests/agnostics have extreme zealots within our ranks...
I hear biblethumpers every day urging turning back the clock to the "innocent" times...were there ever any "innocent" times?

I agree political correctness has done a lot of harm in the country, but cold hearted anger hasn't helped either. Anything taken to extreme is cause for danger and problems...

I agree 100%. This is getting very frustrating. I fully expect one day to wake up and read that the American government is sending Sympathy cards to the Afghan people and issuing checks for any damage including knocked over lamps and smoke damage to drapery and upholstery.

Crazy. Bush gave these people 3 weeks to do what we demanded and they laughed at us. The ultimatum should have included the dropping of a nuclear warhead directly on the mountains range where the coward Bin Laden hides in a cave.
It's quite apparent that nuclear is the only thing America has left that is feared by anybody.
They study us through the modern global village of 24 hour media and have made the same assessments that you have made Mike. That is why they gave the go ahead for the Sept 11 attacks. They don't fear us. They know we'll spend days glued to our TV sets contemplating our navels, liberals and idiots like Richard Gere pleading for calm and peace. Ugh.

Listen, I don't want to see ONE American, Brit, Canadian, AUssie die over there if the goal isn't to WIN this thing DECISIVELY in as short a time period as possible!
WIN OR GET THE HELL OUT!!!

Hmmmmmm........i fear it is going to take what Serge is talking about, smallpox, bubonic plague, huge outbreak before we do what has to be done. I'm not talking about dropping something that will wipe them off the map immediately. Something smaller in those mountains to prove to them that we mean business!!! Hopefully the smaller nuke will kill or smoke Bin Laden out of his hole.

Aly I have confidence that we have Generals who are up to the task. The real problem is the Civilian Leadership, and the press...

I promise you if Bush told the Pentagon to take off the gloves, and do what it had to do to win the war on terrorism - it would done.

Part of our problem is we cannot be honest with ourselves as a nation. Saudi Arabia is NOT an allie, they shake our hands, smile for photos, and at the same time they send millions of $$$s to terrorist orginizations. The gov't has been going out of its way saying Iraq has nothing to do with any of the latest attacks. Why is this?? I could be wrong, we could be just not showing our hands, and will handle Iraw later - but I do not see it happening.

We list out a bunch of terrorist orginizations to freeze assets of, but we do not include all of the terrorists groups who are operating in Lebanon, against Israel...

IT is time we draw a line, and are honest and clear. I thought Bush was going to do it, but it appears he is too concerned about keeping a coalition together.

I understand that sometimes one must make temporary alliences with countries we do not like, as Churchill said, that if the Devil was lined up against Hitler, Churchill would find something good to say about him.

But eventually we will have to address all nations who have waged war against us, directly or indirectly...

Lets face it, the bombing going on in Afganistan is SMALL, compaired to real wars. We are talking 10-20 sorties a day, mostly by carrier based aircraft that can only carry 2 small 500lb bombs.

In Iraq, we were flying 2,000 sorties a day. Of course Iraq has a lot more to bomb, but we are not doing 1/1000 of what we could do.

I read an interesting article the other day about how recently the US became so concerned about "civilian casualties". Our duty in war is to end it as soon as possible, the sooner we win the the war, the less casualties there will be. Including on OUR side, which is paramont.

They say the Afgan people have been through a lot, and the US should not be the next country to put them through hell. My opinion is the Afgan people had an opportunity to rise up and force the type of gov't they want, so they are responsible for the condition they are in. While I would not target civilians, I would not be that concerned about civilian deaths.... of course I know the press would have a shit fit. ( Did press have a shit fit when we fire bombed Germany?)

My concern is that the leaders of this country will have to wake up and realize that Islam is part of the problem. It is NOT a peaceful religion as they keep preaching - while it can be, a majority of those who are Islamic do not see it this way. No major Islamic countries or leaders ( with the exception of Turkey) has stood with the US - because they know their people are secretly happy to what happened to the US.

Saudi Arabi is part of the problem.... We need to start drilling our own oil, and find other sources for oil so we are not forced to have to deal with them. We need to get with Russia, China and Britain and be prepaired to stomp out this threat to the future of humanity.

Islam wants to turn the clock back, it is simple as that. This is going to eventually be a war between those who embrace technology and progress, and those who want to return us to the middle ages.

Mutt,
I wish there was an easy answer....

lets forget about political correctness and deal with facts from history.

Here is the sissors of PRO's and CON's I see:

1) Unless they take off the gloves and just destroy that country
*********************************

Germans destroyed or at least tryed to destroy USSR on the territories they occupied and
A) Nurenberg Tribunal hanged most of them for crimes against humanity.

we don't wanna go that route.

B) Third law of Newton's reads:
"Resistence to the force is equal to the force one applies"

we don't wanna go thru manually every cave we know and we don't know,
and turn peasants who stay out of the war right now into the partisans.
Germans, one of the most advanced army of that time, lost the partisan war to russian peasants.

we don't wanna go that route.

2) PRO's
=========
Time is NOT on our side.
Pakistan's Musharaf is barely holding power and support to US against his own people.
Islamic world VERY cautios in their support to us and we don't wanna fight the war on many fronts,
8 years of Clinton have NOT re-inforced our army.

my brain is not big enough to figure out what's best under the circumstance.

Serge,

You are right Serge. It's not smart to fool yourself and underestimate your enemy. I think the US military does underestimate these people, obviously that statement shows it.
These people are more dedicated to this fight than we can ever hope to be. We have the good life here. We think about many things, last thing on an American soldier's mind this summer was a war this winter in Afghanistan.

We keep hearing about how primitive these Taliban guys are, how they are illiterate, the leader is mentally ill who sits in a car and makes motor noises with his lips like a child.
Yeah right. They are smart. They are poisoning the food the Americans are dropping making sure the people of Afghanistan hate America even more.

I would hate to have a loved one in the US military right now. Unless they take off the gloves and just destroy that country this is going to be one long and I fear less than successful war.

Quicker to trump up evidence against Hussein and take him out first.

Geeky,

Mars sounds boring. What we need to do is plunge something down on the surface of one of the moons of Jupiter that might have liquid under the surface.

Maybe we could find some little wacky life forms? What will life look like elsewhere? Self-replicating molecules from hell?

Somehow I doubt it .. just a buncha rocks ;)

mutt,

that was my thought exactly when i read that article. i sure hope these guys know what they are doing. we already know that the taliban are hiding all of their stuff around the neighborhoods and the mosques. it may come down to whether the US wants to take care of business or just be politically sensitive to everyone's needs.

"We are suprised by the Taliban's resiliency".....ugh.....shades of Vietnam.
***********************

Mutt,
to tell you the truth,
I'd rather took the no BS aproach to
"rosy" assesment which has nothing to do with the truth.

Underestimating one's enemy never done any good to anybody-
either in business or war.

yup i agree.

I really didn't like the comment I heard this morning by one of the US military leaders, he said something like "We are suprised by the Taliban's resiliency".....ugh.....shades of Vietnam.
I'd think by now they would understand that peasant countries don't roll over, when you have been living in hell, few more bombs aren't going to make you give up.

Man between terrorists hiding god knows where, domestic kooks pulling hoaxes and these religious nuts in Utah AMerica is a very scary place.

Here are some quotes from that articles:

Ralph Harding:"In fact, our goal is to cleanup communities, one computer at a time"

"When I ran ContentAudit and saw what was on my computer, my jaw literally dropped open. I was not only worried and revolted, I was angry."

I always have serious questions about people when they say are "REVOLTED" by pictures of pussy. Good shrink can help with that NOT Jesus!
