I was flipping through the channels last night and came across CSPN2, I never have watched CSPN2 before, but obviously must be a station for Canada. They had a segment called Town Hall, where people come in and ask their questions to a panel of so called experts. The topic was obviously on the WTC tragedy, but almost all of the people, including the panel was against the USA going to Afganastan with our military. They all think we should solve this politically with talks. What the FUCK? You cannot negotiate with terrorists, you cannot talk to them.
What the fuck do these people think, we can politly say, Please Mr. Terrorist, Please dont do that again. I swear some people are just fuckin ignorant. To top it all off, the people were DEMANDING the USA to provide sufficent evidence that bin Laden was involved, Im sorry, but we dont have to provide shit to anyone, this happend in OUR Country and if any other country has a problem with that, FUCK EM. The operative word in your statement is "should" I agree with you 100% it should. And in a perfect world, it would, but this is far from a perfect world and we need to survive in it as it is.

Of course we need to beef up front end security, no one is arguing that point, but that alone won't do it. I am not a war monger, I was very involved in anti-war protests in the late 60's early 70's and have an FBI file to show for it. (not so much for my actions, but for the actions of the man I lived with for almost 9 years) This situation is different.

We can not turn the other cheek here. We've been doing that and they keep coming. The first bombing of the WTC, the U.S. Embassy bombings, the USS Cole and now this. They have no regard for human life. Dying for their cause is their greatest honor. This is a matter of self defense.

How many more attacks do you think we should suffer, before it's finally ok to fight back? Yes, lives will be lost in a war, but I honestly think more will be lost if we don't fight.

The war has been going on for some time, now. If you have a firewall, you have only to look at the number of attempted accesses from outside to realize that the cyber phase of it is going full strength. Zone Alarm on my personal PC is stopping incoming accesses at the rate of about one per minute. This could mean someone looking for information, or it could mean that someone wants to route messages through my computer for whatever reason. Either way, they ain't gettin' in!

Again, Wake UP! This isn't any little game or schoolboy spat! These people want us DEAD!

JR, that was said perfectly. During this time most of us have been riddled with anger and grief - its hard to revert back to a democratic mindset when emotions such as these are present.

The beauty of our democratic countries is our ability to see opposing view points and to develop a middle ground - designed to keep as many people happy as possible. This rule that we govern ourselves under should apply to ALL situations, including this one.

My fear of this situation is the consequences that have come about due to the middle ground NEVER being reached - this battle is not a new one, the history makes it impossible to use democracy at this late stage. :-(

At some point, someone has to give in - or be forced into giving in. :-(

Is it only terrorists we are dealing with? If it were, the action is simple *bang* - but instead, we are dealing with a religious, political and human rights bundle all piled into 1 massive dilemna.

i think this situation requires a lot of new thinking. i think in the end, it will certainly conflict with liberalism, civil rights activists etc and the public opinion will change dramatically once the rubble is cleared and Americans are dying in a war that no one understands, fighting an enemy that no one has ever heard of, never seen and never knew existed.

As for myself, for the first time i began to feel that barbarism cannot be fought with civility.

You cannot fairly protect the rights of people who are using those same rights to perpetrate these acts. You cannot use reason to deal with people that are unreasonable. You cannot use logic with people that are illogical. You cannot threaten people with arrest, who are eager to die.

you cannot put someone in a prison where they enjoy a greater level of comfort and security than they did when they were at home and call that "justice".

i began to realize that in the end, it is a simple choice... civilization or terrorism. there is only one answer. there is only one truly effective solution.

you cannot "bring them to justice" since 1) they are not trying to evade justice and 2) they already achieved their goal and became heros and positive examples to hundreds of thousands of others who aspire to achieve the same goals.

the only "justice" in my mind is destroying them in their entirety. as well as destroying their ability to organize, train for, finance and commit such acts.

as was demonstrated, the government is so bogged down in a system of watchers watching the watchers that these people can do what they did just for the simple fact that security and intelligence agencies could not act fast enough.

two were under surveillance already for a suspected connection to the bombing of the USS Cole... yet they hijacked a fucking commercial jet and crashed it. That is unreal.

Someone characterized them as psychopaths...that's exactly right. That's a fancy name for a bully. Violent bullies such as bin Laden know and respect nothing but force. He'll only use our goodwill against us, just as he's used our freedoms against us, and then mock us for "allowing him to do it". We can do nothing else but hunt him down and make certain he stays down, one way or another.
