I'm a programmer ;) hehe trust me, if you get your coder to set up a lil benchmark between MySQL and PostgreSQL he'll be wondering why he never used Postgres before. Postgres isn't as admin friendly as MySQL is, but damn, it flies :)

I use it to power an affiliate program (medium sized I'd say) and heck, the server that serves the affiliates (processes incoming hits, does the stats, all that shit, and the db on it to boot) never comes above 0.25 in load. Can't beat it :)

That's bullshit :) PostgreSQL supports subselects, triggers, stored procedures (in 3 languages mind you, PGPLSQL, Perl, and C), has support for immensely huge databases, better indexing than MySQL, fully operational transaction support, transaction isolation levels, better user authentication/host allow, and runs circles around MySQL when it comes to performance :)

It's as close to Oracle as you can get without paying an arm and a leg.

Best part, it's open source, so development proceeds at a nice pace.
It also is standard-compliant. It understands CSS1, CSS2, DOM, HTML 4.1, XHTML 1.0 - all important W3C standards. If a page don't display in Mozilla, it ain't gonna work for a good percentage of your users ;)

MadCat, I use Netscape 3.1 to test out what our sites look like on an old browser. It is pretty effective and have found to be extremely stable...

Previously the owner of gofishin.com tried to buy this domain but the owner wanted $50k which was a bit rich for his blood.

I bought it for $12,500. Still a bit high.......but not having it was SOOO bad imo that I just could not resist.

Plus in Florida one of the license plates we have says "Go Fishing" on it. :-))

I will break even in just under 3 years unless it gets more traffic than I anticipate.
