Webfather, only 2???????
you've seen nothing yet,
I see way for more on the horizon!
;-)))
one thing people forget-
OPRANO is not here because MikeAI and me don't have enough millions in the acounts,
OPRANO is here to expose scams,
bring INNOVATIONS,
benefit the INDUSTRY,
and will be here long after we piss the last sponsor of ours away!
;-)))
General is NOT our sponsor,
but we LOVE BigGuy anyway for his BRAINS, not his MONEY!

Morning Serge :)
Yes! We missed you! :)
I'm putting a link in my tagline for VNWR's weekly newspaper, The DFN Weekly.. I wrote the lead article this week, and in it I mention TGP2 and also for anyone wanting to learn more about it I gave them a good url to do just that! :)
Monk, you had over 2 years to change those links! What took you so long ? :)
Its good to see the General posting again. I remember watching Webfather's dozen or so links change positions up and down on his porno page based on the Generals program conversions.

Got this email from SIC Cash last night
"When we first opened S.I.C. Cash our linking codes were built around an IP address. Over two years ago, we started a new linking code system which does not use an IP address. As of this Friday, August 17, 2001, S.I.C. Cash v.3 will not be paying on any signups that are generated from an IP address linking code."
Gee, thanks for the day and a half notice to track down all of those old links and get them replaced!!

General,
YES,
set it up.
RETIREMENTS are for the sissies and
I believe that what you have might be EXACTLLY what the Industry needs to SURVIVE and EVOLVE!
...and we thought that INNOVATION is dead....
"Once an Innovator is ALWAYS an INNOVATOR"
let's rock the house once again!
(I wonder how long will it take for others to copy this time???;-)))
General, if you have the same "old" email addy, I have a proposition for you. :-) If not, please hit me up at dravyk at allofem dot com. Thanks. :-) Good to see you around.
... Feels like a time warp around here suddenly. :-)
I wonder if there aren't two forces here that need to be taken into consideration --
1. the complete lack of marketing ability of 99% of the newbies in the last year or two, thus flooding the market with free content and screwing up conversions
2. the feasibility of the current pricing model -- which has only changed by dollar amounts and not innovativeness in as long if not longer --
:)

it's gotta be it, as billing options are getting innovated.
I think "old economy" rules of supply and demand are still very much in tact!
Among the top ten highest rated radio shows Sounding Point has had, five were issues-oriented. The other five were: the two times FM was on, the one time RB was on, the two times Andy Edmond was on. Sense a pattern? :-)

Vick, you call it "SHAKEOUT"???????
I call it a BLESSING!

KK if you could please do it here that would be great. You have done an outstanding job answering many of my questions
Think it would help some of the readers here to see
I really appreciate the time and effort you have given to explain the processing business to me
"the complete lack of marketing ability of 99% of the newbies in the last year or two, thus flooding the market with free content and screwing up conversions "
I feel that is a serious factor
Hopefully TGP2 is not too much too late and will not face some of the challeges of previous efforts
As an industry we may still face a shake out (over the next 18 months) as smaller, less developed and hobbist webmasters may not be able to generate enough revenue to support their business and families
That may be the worse case on how some of the abundance of free material leaves the net, if businesses fail the sites will be gone

Star,
Do they offer cable modem services in Tampa? I personally waited OVER a year for my DSL service to come in and when it did... guess what? It worked long enough for me to register so I would start being billed then it crapped out. I went with the cable service in my area and it was installed in less than a week and I couldn't have be happier. If they do offer it, definitely look into it as an option if you can't wait. BTW, I had cancelled DSL back in Jan., they are still attempting to bill me every month, even after numerous cancellation calls.
Oh, BTW! Hi everyone, just came across this board and wanted to say hey, never posted here before but looks like I'll be stopping back by to see what happening here. =) If anyone needs some info on marketing or creating gay sites, I'd be happy to help you out. Just shoot me a post or email me. Talk to you all soon!

Wow verizon really sucks. I've been waiting for eons to get dsl here in Tampa. I even ordered it like 3 weeks befor we moved. This aol connection is really hard use when trying to get work done :(
Vick--
I'll be glad to discuss numbers and reasons why they are what they are with you any time :)
They have changed alot in the last 6 months, especially the last 3 monhts -- and from a personal standpoint, I'm not sure anything that happened last year or last quarter even is relevant to what's going on today with the numbers -- I'll use Brad's post about the last 3 months with his majors to illustrate my point --
I can do it in email or you can ask me here -- however, the numbers I'm going to give you are an aggregate of many sites, including the mom n pops that don't see cb problems and have generally better retention (tho I think I have a good idea why that is too) which will skew the numbers as a whole --
I wonder if there aren't two forces here that need to be taken into consideration --
1. the complete lack of marketing ability of 99% of the newbies in the last year or two, thus flooding the market with free content and screwing up conversions
2. the feasibility of the current pricing model -- which has only changed by dollar amounts and not innovativeness in as long if not longer --
American Eagle Outfitters HQ is about 3 minutes from my house. I used to work for them and I can tell you, that IS NOT a company I would invest in. They may be growing but they have a pretty strong record of failures.
Wait, where's the stock board, I should have posted this there.

Serge:
It certainly did. Here's this poor seventeen year old kid who actually has permission to surf the net and find porn..who is so responsible and careful and all of a sudden, we're hit with this huge bill and we can't figure out from where it came. AT&T's only response was they would not charge us this one time. But, if ever it happened again, they would not be held responsible. Bah! My husband is a network engineer and quite computer savvy and he could not find anywhere anything that indicated this would download in the background, disconnect and reconnect. In medicine, there is something called informed consent. This is as it should be on the internet, also. :-)

Actually that decline is per unique cards not attemps. :(
MelissaD - Thanks again, I follow the math, just wonder how to get the 20%-30% down ;-)
On CC declines @ 33%
If the formula for CC declines is
total number of declines/total number of billings
May be a little skewed as most surfers try 2 or 3 times when their card is declined
But I GET IT ;-)!!!
On line checks are $ you would not have
And recur better ;-)

Lets see if i got this right
bpj said on WTS
""NSF's represent approximately 15-20% of all returned items. Revocations are 1-2%. ""
from what i've seen with iBill
its about 30-50% returns, revokes.

MelissaD, Hooper -
Thanks much for the input
Understand fully what you are saying
"Most important fact: CHECKS, ACH, 900 AND DIALERS DON'T TAKE SALES AWAY FROM CREDIT CARDS !!!!!"
Checks no matter what percentage are largely revenue you would not have had, not offering that option
Seeing 20%-30% revoke is a psychological thing with me
Makes RED LIGHT GO OFF
of course I wonder how to make it better

Vick-
Your concern is a valid one re the revoke rate of 20-30% but take into account CC declines 33%, Checks 12% (there is 20% right there)
No real trials - okay so compare
Trials to rebill drop off on credit cards to revokes on checks-
CC - 50%
Checks 20-30%
Right there you are ahead of the game!
Not to mention the rentention is higer (2X higher)
Most important fact: CHECKS, ACH, 900 AND DIALERS DON'T TAKE SALES AWAY FROM CREDIT CARDS.

Vick... as a program operator I can guarantee that you'll see no decline from using checks... just additional revenue.
Creditcard surfers will always be creditcard surfers... the rest? Turn em away or make em pay!

Is anybody else afraid? Very Very Very afraid? you know its going to be packed - kinda like watching a car wreck.
Am strongly considering CCbill when starting a new reseller proggy. They lend credibilty for webmasters to know they get paid. I start in my name and webmasters who don't know me may wonder "am I going to get paid". From what I have seen CCbill offers a "soup to nuts" solution
bpj - Thank you very much for sharing the information
Is something I will take into consideration
THIS IS NOT TO START A PISS!!!
IT IS TO MAKE INFORMATION AVAILABLE
KK can you please share similar info about CCbill on line check processing?
Guess my real concern is the acknowledged 20%-30% return rate for on line checks
Hopefully the check users are not potential members who opted for check over CC because of no interest rates on checking

I do need to worry about fraud on my system, bandwidth, content cost of users that get to use my stuff for free for 7-10 days
***********************************
The majority of our returns come back within 5 days....
How many of the revokes are NSF?
*********************************
Thought I already answered this...? ;-)
NSF's represent approximately 15-20% of all returned items
How many are incorrect routing/account #?
*************************
The majority of returns are due to invalid acct #, closed account, cannot locate acct, customer denies auth, etc.
How many are returned ie chargedback?
**************************
There are no cb's. "Late Returns" are those transactions that a consumer revokes within the 62 days allowed. Late returns are appx 2%.
PLease do not hesitate to call on me again! :)
I'm off to pick up my boys from the pool! Thanks for the grilling! See you late tonight or tomorrow...

bpj-
Unfortunately in this industry its not easy to get a merchant acct and even harder for a single company to hold on to one.
Then you have the issues of caps and reserves, fines and chargebacks, all the negatives.
Even those with their own merchant acct have limited options in fraud scrubbing -- CCBill is very fortunate in the fact that we have our own proprietary system that is not negative based --
One of the good things about using a third party processor -- be it CCBill, Jettis, IBill, whomever -- the risk is shared among many sites -- and most of the smaller mom n pop type sites do not incur chargebacks at a rate that is ever a problem -- the larger customers using third party get a bit more room to play without driving the third parties cb rates sky high --
Finding the right processing solution is never easy, but sitting alone to have to figure it out is even harder.
