Weight loss update.
So a few weeks ago I mentioned that a little interoffice weight loss challenge was underway. Everyone is doing well and it's amazing to see people more energetic and charged about getting into shape. For a lot of peope this accoutability is what they need to get off of their asses and better themselves.
I'm continually impressed by people's dedication and determination. Personally, I'm down close to 20 lbs from where I started. Okay, I know I know some people will say that the first few pounds are water. You know what I agree, however even as I'm completely hydrated now though I can say that close to 20 lbs in 3 weeks is fairly dramatic. Believe it or not I'm not in first place when it comes to total pounds lost. However, we're going by percentage, so I'm not far out of first place. If anyone has been delaying this for themselves I encourage you to do so. Eat right and exercise more, your body wants to be lean. 3 to 4 weeks and you'll have a whole new pattern of eating and exercising locked down. |

Well done Steve as the body turns fat into muscle and since it weighs more than fat, your weight loss will start to slow .. very well done though

Re: Weight loss update.
Red, you're killing me. Actually, the craving for sweets and carbs was never there. I'm a meat guy. Steak, ribs, chops, chicken and of course fish and seafood.
However eating healthy is something that is underrated. Your body does amazing things when it's nourished right. You really see the differnce in energy and strength even after a few weeks. It's even more amazing to think that the body fights to get into shape. You can get into shape a lot quicker and with less effort than it takes to get out of shape. |

Re: Weight loss update.
Congrats!
I started my diet and workout routine on August 10th and I am down 24.5lbs so far and it doesn't seem to be stopping. When I started I was in a size 48 Levis Jeans. Yesterday I purchased a size 42 that was a little loose! You can't beat that. I hope to be down about 60-75lbs total by Christmas. I know the first lbs come off much easier.. but I am determined!

Re: Weight loss update.
Chicken and Broccoli are my best friends. I can have a salad anywhere, pretty much order it plain with grilled chicken on top.. You can't beat it.
I don't really crave anything. The first 2 weeks were the toughest, now it's just old hat.

Re: Weight loss update.
24.5 in 3 weeks is phenomenal. Percentage wise that's a good start.
Some people don't believe it when they hear it. But that's a great start and keep it up. My goal is a healthy 160 which puts my lean BMI inline of where it needs to be. I've dropped nearly 5 BMI points already. They say it's not a perfect indicator because it doesn't account for muscle mass in it's determination of health. They say your waist size male or female is a good indicator of overall healthy. Your'e doing great sharky. |

Re: Weight loss update.
I saw a post from Ben @ WTS on GFY a few weeks ago that pretty much sumed up what I was already doing. I am taking in no more than 1500 calories a day.
I am eating/drinking pretty much all day. I work out for an hour every morning and every other day I work out 30 minutes in the evening as well. Weekends included. Right now my workout is mostly cardio followed by light weights to keep my body pumped. When I eat, I try to eat low sodium/sugar/carb foods only in moderation. usually Chicken and broccoli or chicken and plain salad. In between meals I have a protein smoothie in the morning and a blanace bar in the afternoon. I never eat after 8pm. I cut out just about every drink other than water. I do have regular iced tea every now and then to change things up. However I no longer sweeten it, even with splenda or sweet and low. They still contain sugars. I am constantly drinking water, probably about 2 gallons a day if I measured. I feel much better now, and I am noticing I am a little more alert during the day. I really do think I will reach my goals, and by August of next year I expect to drop 130lbs total!

Damn, and here I've found all that weight everyone has lost
I'm no longer fitting into my "fat clothes" so it's time for me to take things a bit more seriously. |

Re: Weight loss update.
Congratulations, everyone, who has started the life change. For me, it's been an uphill battle....but, determination and staying the course has been real nice. I bought my first pair of size ten jeans the other day.....

Congrats to you too Raven. Peaches, it's not so bad. I think that most would agree that it's a state of mind. Diets and workout products even gimmicky ones can be effective if you get your mind and body into the right state. I think I read a Tony Robbins book a few years ago that really summed it up. You need to associate death and illness and disease with unhealthy things, unhealthy things that you may even be addicted to. Food in the massive quantities that the Western World has been taught is okay is a poison. Add to that a very sedentary lifestyle and of course you have a recipe for disaster. When you move from gluttony to eating for survival and overall health the body will respond positively. I think goal setting is a part of it too. If you set your goals too low and reach them without setting new ones, your motivation may be lost and your end goal ultimately sabotaged. If you set your goals too high and don't get into the right state of mind and body and spirit you'll lose faith and confidence in your own abilities and may sabotage current and future efforts to achieve goals. I suppose that it's also important to realize that success isn't always achieved the first time with anything. Anyone who makes something look easy has probably tried it a hundred times before without fanfare, you're happening to see them at their shining moment. |

Re: Weight loss update.
You're right, Steve....mine was a wake up call.....and I thought I was dying....which is a powerful motivation...
It took me ten years to get to where I was. I figured it would take a year to get to my goal....

Re: Weight loss update.
I dropped another 2lbs.. and I'm moving forward. these 42s are getting looser and I am going to go buy 40's today! What a good feeling:-)
Here's what's even better... when I was 25lbs lighter before (my current weight) I was in size 44's... so what I am doing is working. I am losing the Fat!

Re: Weight loss update.
wow.. 15.2% is great! I haven't been tested for bodyfat in a while. I think I'll do that next time I am at the gym. It will be nice to see what I lose.
Congrats!

Re: Weight loss update.
The bodyfat monitor scales work pretty good. Not as accurate as other methods of testing but if used properly and regularly you can use it to test change from a baseline.
Congrats to all. |

Re: Weight loss update.
Just wanted to add that I've been away. Drank loads, ate like it was wrong and smoked like it was the 1950's again.
I managed to put on 11 pounds. Good work all those coming down, but for me going up in weight I'm very happy
