I ran into Dravyk in FL a few times and we both have the same disease. We're too damn nice to be in this business. Not sure what your problem with him is Serge, well I lied, I do know, but this is making a mountain out of a molehill in my opinion.
And no, I don't miss the reviews either because I read the boards so I don't need a recap. |

Yeah, I miss Dravyk. I miss Dig, ScottPB (don't tell him), Charles Carreon, Robin (didn't have time to get to know him), the fishman who swears he is Cohen's friend), and sometimes I miss the old un-threaded board.
Have you found a replacement for Robin? Mutt, are you coming back? |

he's the only person i've been confused with, or he was confused with me or maybe it was just Dig that would confuse us

but 1) does Electra post on Oprano? 2) does Electra do anything for Oprano? 3) "good person" is not a profession....it's more like a "hobby" and I am not much into hobbies. this is what happens behind the curtains: Electra made her bed with Netpond, when Netpond was #1 and this si where her loyalties are. In today's realities, GFY is #1 and they can't give a flying fuck about Electra. I still don't know what Dravyk's position in the company and what is his input in policy making, thus it's hard for me to take him serious from the business point of view...I am not that good at dealing with second fiddles.

Dravyk and Electra are both good people - doesn't make any difference where they do or do not post. or what convention they do or do not go to.

I will say it.
Drav is a weenie. He has always been a weenie, and will always be a weenie. He is a fence sitter, and an ass kisser. Could this be because of his job? Maybe. But regardless, I have no respect for people who cannot stand up for the things they beleive. ( It is even worse if they do not have anything they beleive in) Electra, I have seen her around - but never spoke with her, and I never paid attetnion to her posts. I have some other opinions, but they are not relevant at this time. As far as letting them back. I do not care one way or the other. For the most part I am against banning anyone, but I support my partner - and if they crossed a line with him, I support Serge 100%. |

In my life, there are varying levels of friends. Acquaintances are those that I've met, but haven't really talked to at any great length. HOPEFULLY those acquaintances become friends later. Like Lisa with PMB. We've met before, but never chatted. We spent some time together in FL and now I consider her a GOOD friend. When I was in the corporate world there were people I considered "friends", but not GOOD friends, i.e. I'd never spend time with them outside the office, but they were still more than acquaintances. I still DO spend time with people I've worked with over the years - they are GOOD or even BEST friends. Then there are BESTEST friends :P These are people I've known almost my entire life and they know everything there is to know about me - probably more than they want to know These are people I know I could contact for help no matter what - and they know they could call me. Need some $$$? Not a problem. Need a kidney? I'm there. Need to me to kill your ex....well, I won't answer that one, hehehe. Then there are OLD friends which are those I used to have a close relationship with, but through the years, we've become further apart So: Acquaintance friend good friend best friend bestest friend old friend And there are even some people that are a combination of these, lol! I also don't dislike anyone based on what they've done BUSINESSWISE to any level of my friends. But do something to them on a PERSONAL level and I'm not very nice. Confused? I am!! But you made me think and I like that! |

serge, to answer the main question you posted. Not really because I dont read any reviews at all.
have they helped in my biz? ummm, no direct impact to my biz, but I've spent some time with them and enjoy their thoughts on some things. I classify them as friends. I even gave them t-shirts [quote]c'mon, put your critical thinking cap on, it ain't that hard [quote] not this morning, I'm dealing with a mild hangover :P

Personally - I don't have time to read reviews any more than I have time to read every single board out there. But I do know that a lot of people do. I have a few boards that I post on for business - and a few that I post on just because I like to. I enjoy going to those boards. Oprano is a nice work-and-pleasure type hybrid that I read/post on every chance I get, but I think that having Oprano listed would be helpful to others whose schedules don't allow that type of reading/posting freedom.
As far as tools that I use - the Board Scanner program that AllofEm puts out is very helpful IMHO. There's also another similar program that I've used in the past as well. I like how it emails me on keywords searched for on a HUGE number of boards - boards that I might not ever get around to reading/posting on otherwise, but boards where people are asking questions about things that I should be involved in. I have gotten NEW business and have been able to give webmasters support BECAUSE of this service. So I guess for some it's about time constraints. You're right Serge, it's not about friends or aquaintances - I absolutely adore both Electra & Dravyk - but I sincerely think that their collected works do contribute to the industry. If there's a tool out there that can save me time - whether it's 10 minutes or an hour or two - I consider that DOING SOMETHING for me. After all - time IS money and a wise man once told me - back in my newbie days - to work smarter, not harder. |

Serge - YOU gave me this advice years ago.
Unfortunately I didn't take said advice until recently when I broke free from my former position/alliances. I am making double what I made back when I worked harder - those 18 hour days were killing me. Now I am working smarter, have more $$$ and have more time to spend with my family. Sure I am not the 'Net millionaire that everyone hopes to be - but I have found a higher success level that is making me $ and is making me happy. This is after 9 months of changing my plan. Who knows where I could be another 9 months from now? And YES... it was "meaningless advice" to me for many years. It took awhile, but it finally made sense. I had an epiphany thanks to you Serge whether you want to take credit for it or not. Apparently you CAN teach an old dog new tricks. |

************************************************** *** if you give birth 9 months from now- I don't want any credits, it's NOT what I meant ;-))) My advices are like verses from Torah, they are OPEN to interpretations ;-)))

But you are correct... and like verses from Torah, they sometime plant a seed but it can take years for understanding to bloom - and even longer sometimes for action to be taken. Fortunately it didn't take me more than 5 to finally figure it out. Doh! |

Have read through this thread and see the course it has taken and ...
I too have benefited from Serge's advice over the years and like to add that I hope those (who like me) have benefited from Serge's advice remember that and try to return something in kind weather it is (something as small as) support or feedback and ideas or stimulus to ideas For example look at MikeAI's post in this thread - that gets a lot of respect and admiration from me, support of your partner ...... |

IMHO anyone who takes care of things that bore me is automatically helping me and hopefully the things i do in return are as useful for someone else. the 'dravyks' of the world are just as important as the 'serges', because if they didn't exist, the 'serges' would be very busy hunting for food |

This whole thing seems like a pretty simple straightforward dispute between a couple of resource sites over the normal thing that resource sites get into disputes about.
Now, if I was a smartass I would say that about only "more to the story" that isn't being shown might be the egos of the parties involved. Of course, I'm not a smartass - I'm a demacommy. I work for Dravyk and Electra, who operate Dirty Gloves & All of Em just like Mike and Serge operate Oprano - as partners. I support my employers, just like Mike supports his partner. I am glad to read that the resident board lyricist wasn't in fact invoking Devo; me personally, I'm thinking along more classical lines. Perhaps Shakespeare. MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING.

Well, having had my ego crushed the other day by the information that I am not a player, I am obviously not a worthy opponent. Of course, I'm also not dumb enough to play high stakes poker with a guy who wants to use the deck of cards he pulls out of his pocket, either.
I would imagine you could get a good piss going if you cleared up any technical difficuties that might be blocking potential opponents. Anyway, it's halftime during the football game, and I've got to run out for some dinner. I've got a taste for some KFC tonight.

Yeah, those TimTams are awefully good. CJ gave me a box last year and I took them out and gave them to my mom. Well, I ate a few as well. She's been bugging me to get more ever since. May have to go to Australia just to buy cookies.
As far as the Serge vs Dravyk smackdown battle, I've heard Dravyk's side of the story and yes there is a little more to the story. Then again, there are always 3 sides to every story so I have no idea what the truth really is. It's really none of my business though so I'll stay out of it thank you. |

OOooh! The caramel ones look yummy! I'm not a big dark chocolate fan - give me creamy milk chocolate and I'm a happy camper. :P
You really find out how crappy American chocolate is when you taste it from almost EVERYWHERE else and it's so much better than ours is, lol! |
