I think that Nagin has done a very good job considering all of the things he's had to deal with.

And, he cut the bullshit too. People are very appreciative for that... There were all of these officials trying to spin damage control all over the place, and he pushed politics aside and got real with everyone.

There was actually a radio guy that did an excellent job of not allowing damage control to be spun on his station... He would interview all of these officials on the radio and the minute they would stop being honest and start trying to spin damage control, he fought with them, yes FOUGHT with them over the radio... It was like nothing I had ever heard in my life...

But, back to the point...

I think he's trying to slowly start populating the city to try to start giving some people a sense of normalcy and the feel that things are starting to get better, that they are starting to progress. He's not letting everyone back... Right now, he's just letting the people that work in the city go back into the city to do so, and, not even all of them... Just some of them. (That's the last thing I heard on the local news...)

I don't think Nagin will take the water pollution lightly at all. I'm sure he'll make sure the people know that the water is contaminated and not useable... They'll just have to find other ways to have water for the things they'll need for now. That's what we were all doing before...

And, as for the hurricane coming... I definitely don't think Nagin will take that lightly either. I'm sure he'll be watching the storm very closely and if it looks like it is going to hit us again, I'm sure he'll make sure that those people are out of there before it hits.

On that note though... If another one hits us right now and especially if they think it's going to hit as a cat 4 like I heard, we will definitely be SERIOUSLY screwed... Even 40NW, like I am right now... There are still too many trees down... Too much debris laying around... So, I really hope it doesn't hit us because I just don't know what I'd do if we had to deal with another one so soon...

Nagin is an idiot. This is not hearsay, this has been my impression of him on the numerous occassions I have spent time with him.

I have family who are his peers and some on his staff, who were with him during the whole storm. He is in over his head.

Americans act generally tend to act like obnoxious fucking retards everywhere they go. But you know what? The average Brit is just as bad in my opinion. Loud, rude, drunk and obnoxious. Anywhere in Europe, when you hear someone being an idiot or hear someones voice standing out in the crowd, he is either American or British.

Liang noted that this was the single greatest contribution of Li Hongzhang to Cantonese cuisine. Liang also remarked that Chop Suey was really not Chinese cuisine, "no Chinese in America ever went to Chop Suey restaurant". Chop Suey still is the Cantonesee pronunciation of "杂碎", clearly indicates its American Cantonese origin.

I've never been able to figure out what I call the "WalMart Syndrome." When I go to the grocery store, or pretty much any other store, I run into a wide range of people, but for the most part they're all nice, mostly intelligent, good for a giggle or even a conversation.

When I go to the WalMart, in the same neighborhoods (we have two close to us) I am astounded by the customers. Were they low class trash when they walked in or is there something in the air inside the store that makes them that way? WalMart is the only store where I've had somebody slam into my stationary wheelchair and give me an ugly look as if it was all my fault. I can't let one of my daughters take me there anymore...because she *will* throw a punch and came very close to doing so. Only my muttered "I can't get home if you get arrested" stopped her.

Great prices on household items and cat supplies, but boy...the people are a sideshow.

We don't have the "WalMart Superstore" things down here.

Might I suggest Nordstrom's? I am sure they would be most happy to provide someone to assist you, no one swears or pushes, there aren't lines of people arguing over 50 cents at the check out and they even have a nice man playing the piano in the one I have been to. It makes for that perfect shopping ambience.

When we first got a holiday home in Fl , it was near Disney.

We spent every day at the parks and compared to the UK , we could not believe the number of people in Wheelchairs.

We then noticed a couple of things. They managed to get out of them to shop and eat.

Technick esposed the theory "they are just too enormously fucking fat to walk around!!!"

In the UK at that time the only people in Wheelchairs were pretty fucked

This led to my theory of always going to the wheelchair area and get one for "poor old auntie"..it is great for carrying shopping and allows you to get better seats for the shows

Fortunately Technick and myself have expanded into the role of "too fat to walk around"

Oh, I hear you with this story. I *never* expect a wheelchair to be available *anywhere.* (Besides, I couldn't get there from the car, wherever it is.) I've seen perfectly capable people thinking it's just fun to ride the motorized carts at the grocery...leaving some poor elderly person with a cane to just sit on the little bench and wait until the assholes are finished playing bumper carts.

I always check for the placards or license plates on cars in the handicapped spots...and become enraged when they're not there. Just some asshole who decided to use the spot. (A Russian Roulette maneuver, since the fine for that is very high. I live in fear of forgetting to hang the damned placard from the rearview mirror and coming back and finding a ticket.)

I know it doesn't apply to me, Nick, and wouldn't have taken it that way.
