All this talk about socks reminded me of something that happened years ago.

When I was stationed in Bermuda (so like '75-76) all the clubs on the island required you to waer a tie. Some required Jackets, but all required ties.

A bunch of us go to the Princess Hotel one night and go downstairs to their dance club (It wasn't quite the disco era so it wasn't a disco yet). When we are heading in we realize that Rodney doesn't have a tie on, so we do the old try to sneak him in with the crowd trick but the guy at the door sees him and stops hime from coming in. He turns to us and says, I'll be right back. We figured he was going back to base to get a tie, so we go on into the club.

Rodney shows up about 5 minutes later. Now, he hadn't had time to go back to the base, and there around his neck is a tie, so we ask him "where'd you get the tie". He answers "It's my sock".

Fucker had gone into the bathroom, taken off a stinky old sock and wrapped it around his neck and managed to get past the door with it. It was fucking hilarious....
