This used to be some what true pre 2000, but now things are entirely different. I am prepping myself for 6 different projects I have to work on of which none are adult related at all. One is adult related but is not porn related (If that makes sense)

I was wondering... For those of you in the mainstream right now. How tough is the marketing currently in this sector ?? Is it as difficult as adult? Is it as easy as it was pre 2000 for adult ? I don't want to hear 'It depends on if you know how to market" Smartasses ... LOL (That was for you Nick!)

I've got a project that I've been working on since October and with it still not being finished, I've got no links coming in, I've never submited to the SE's or pushed it in anyway.... yet I've got 67 members

I've no idea how they found the site but it will be interesting to see what happens when I get it finished and go all out and push it

I guess it comes down to what it is you're offering, as I've other mainstream things that I have pushed and pushed hard but they just aint working

The fields are rather diverse that I am getting into.. One of the first three projects I will be focusing on is saturated as all hell but there will always be a need for it... So worst case scenario in a couple years i make a couple hundred a month off of it, LOL ...

The other 2 are pretty simplistic in concept but one in particular could become so much more diverse and dive into alot of sub categories. Should be interesting to see how they all play out...

At least I seem to be enjoying myself more in the non adult

BTW, I think the reason why I am enjoying it more is due to the fact that there are more ways to be creative. It is awfully damn tough to be creative in the adult sector with the saturation levels exceeding anything I would of ever imagined when I started in it.

Plus in adult, it seems that rules are tagged onto everything - Paysites must offer affils x,y and z. Free sites must kiss all ass then double kiss them again. All pornsites must comply... the list goes on and on...

I don't want to be called a smart ass, so I will say it's all according to what you are marketing

There are some areas of mainstream that could be considered over saturated...but that doesn't mean not to build for them, especially if you know what you are doing. Coming from adult, you have a good jump on the normal mainstream webmaster, most of them don't know how to build a decent site to begin with, let alone market it.

I don't think anything will be as easy as pre 2000, but who really wants it easy anyways. You lose your creative energies, and edge if it all comes to easy.

Yeah .....I really want to expend all my energies to make 5K a mth!!!! ;-)))

The trick is ALWAYS deliverying prequalified people to your shop.

If you can work out a way of finding and persuading 10,000 people who are interested in yr product to come and check out yr shop everyday , then ,depending on the price tag , or the tightness of supply , you will be rich

Same general model except once a site is established you'll usually make more selling advertising than dealing with referral based marketing.

Build a site with content that is updated frequently. Buy traffic to feed it & use that traffic until you get enough bookmarkers/trades to sustain it. Content rules in mainstream sites (at least humor/entertainment sites). That's what draws bookmarkers and word of mouth.

Don't forget to use viral marketing as well. Get a concept, build the site around it and build the traffic. If you provide something the surfer wants on a regular basis - they'll come and keep coming plus telling people about the site etc.,

Take a look at some of the more successful mainstream sites and see how they're pathological about updating every day/two/three.
