Default Show, don't tell...

Apparently, Missorourans take the appellation "Show Me" very, very seriously, as this article on on XBiz points out. The MO legislature sure as hell don't want anything more than showing going on!

Particularly of interest are the hours of operation (not after 10 pm, but apparently shit canned in the new version), the forbidding of lap dances, and the requirement for all dancers to remain on a stage at least 6' from all patrons.

Thoughts?

I actually think the entire story reflects on the of the problems of modern politics.

The same rules / laws were proposed by the same guy last year, apparently barely making committee and never ever coming up for a vote.

Any two members can come together and move and new proposal seconded and it makes the list of laws to consider. It isn't really any closer to being a law at that point.

The problem is how the media typically reports these rules. While Xbiz reports it correctly "Mo. Lawmaker Takes Aim at Adult", many media outlets would come up with "New MO law to ban lapdancing". That is horribly misleading, because unless it clears committee and actually gets passed and signed into law, it is just one nutjob's opinion.

My theory is the law died on the rolls last year, and it will probably do the same again this year. Lapdancing may be the only part of the economy that will grow in 2009, so why stop it?
