I stay downtown, and rent a car.
For the price of a week downtown, AND a rental car, it costs about the same as one night a big casino.
I also stay for CES, so I'm usually there a solid week. Parking is basically free everywhere (Except the Hilton,) so the freedom a car gives me is an added bonus.
I'm always suspicious of people and programs that blow huge sums of money on deluxe hotel rooms.
Sure, sure, we all soooo successful we can spend, spend, spend. Next year? They ain't around no mo'.

I'll pay for convenience and comfort, but there are limits. And over triple the going rate is beyond that limit for me.
Absolutely agree with your approach for getting most bang for the buck.
For me personally, I haven't rented a car in vegas in a decade. Cabs are convenient and reasonably priced, and traffic is a pain. Plus, I have been known to partake in the occasional adult beverage while in Vegas. Shocking, I know, but I have found that Vegas is a fairly easy town to get drunk in.
I prefer to stay toward mid-strip so I can walk to most of my favorite spots to drink, eat and gamble.
