I lived on Cape Hatteras for 4 years. The Outer Banks is a great place to live. KDH is on Dare island (North end of Cape Hatteras) so it is not as isolated as Hatteras island. During the summer there is lots of partying and stuff in Nags Head (right next door to KDH), during the winter it is much quieter, not much to do except walk on the beach, fish or surf.

Houses tend to be expensive because the island is not really all that wide so you are not very far from the beach no matter where you are on the island.

A certain amount of self sufficiency is always necessary down there. Nearest big city type area is Norfolk. Elizabeth City has some stuff and Manteo has some stuff but when you need real stores you are trucking a few hours up the road to Norfolk.

The further south you get on the Cape the more redneck the islanders are (you could live there 50 years and they still would not consider you an islander...lolol).

Don;t know what the attitude towards adult would be, Dare county itself tends towards the bible belt, redneck attitutde.
