I hate bullshit reports like this. It's very important that us, in the business, point out to anyone who is not aware...
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS PORNOGRAPHY ADDICTION!
The problem previously known as pornography addiction is now known to be a form of obsessive compulsive disorder. It has nothing to do with porn, it has to do with 'obsessive' behavior.
From Wikipedia:
Quote:
"Pornography addiction' is not classifed by medical doctors as a disease but rather has a form of obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). There is considerable dispute about whether "pornography addiction" actually exists, and if so, whether it has harmful effects. One popular argument against this form of addiction is that many people regularly watch pornography and still lead productive lives. Critics argue that people who regularly view pornography are able to have normal relationships and are not desensitized to less stimulating materials.
The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders does not presently provide a formal definition for pornography addiction. Many informal "self-tests" have been written (for example, here), but do not appear to have been normed or statistically validated.
Not all OCD sufferers engage in compulsive behavior. Recent years have seen increased diagnoses of Pure Obsessional OCD, or "Pure O." This form of OCD is manifested entirely within the mind, and involves obsessive ruminations triggered by certain thoughts. These mental "snags" can be debilitating, often tying up a sufferer for hours at a time. As of 2004, headway continues to be made by specialists. It is believed by many that Pure O OCD is in fact more prevalent than other types of OCD, although it is likely the most underreported as it is not visibly apparent, and sufferers tend to suffer in silence. In this disorder, the sufferer tries to "disprove" the anxious thoughts through logic and reasoning, yet in doing so becomes further entrapped by the obsessions. "Pure O" OCD is thought to be the most difficult form of OCD to treat."
