Maybe one provides purchased content that requires no photo editing because it's already high quality and the other provides only videos and the designer needs to make screen grabs that require extensive editing to make them look good.
I've been in the mainstream design business since 1987 and mainstream design companies never list prices. There are a lot of things that adult designers do that are different, like listing prices. The other thing is working for peanuts. All I can say is that I'm sure glad I don't have to rely on adult design work to make a living, especially with all the outsourcing.
Just out of curiousity. If you like a designers work, what's so hard about contacting them to discuss your project and giving them a chance to work up a quote without being expected to tell you in advance what it's going to cost? I guarantee you that if you ever need a brochure or some kind of print marketing material that you will have to do that.
p.s. We all have pet peeves that some people don't agree with and I do understand your point somewhat, I'm just giving a perspective from the other side.

All I'm asking for is a portfolio and "prices starting at....". That's enough for me to decide if I want to take the time to play. If your portfolio looks like hell and your prices are the same as proven guys like MikeW, Dickman, et al, I know not to waste my time.
And part of the deal for me is I'm often doing stuff that is....out of the ordinary for the industry. And I dont like to share what I'm doing with anyone who I dont have to. So I'm not gonna put my cards on the table for some guy just to give me a quote...
