Default YNOT Radio...

....just listened to it for the first time, because a friend who was on air last week was supposed to have the "show" re-aired this week...

Now, I mean no offense to people who may be involved in YNOT Radio, but honestly... that was the most boring 3 hours of my life.

I tuned in at 4:30pm Pacific time approx... and the quality of sound was terrible. It reminded me terribly, of talking through a tin can. Might've been the phone connection, I'm not sure... either way it was bad. It was also boring. REALLY boring.

I think the worst part was when when an advertisement came on that boasted of how 'YNOT Radio is talking MORE THAN EVER' (an advertisement which played twice, back to back) because that was at about 6:40 and I still hadn't heard a single song. Seemed like talking & ads was about all there was. Talking, and when I tried to tune that out, my attention was diverted to the looped 1 or 2 minute background "sound." It made elevator music sound melodical in comparison, seriously. And it looped. Repeatedly.

The experience was very adeptly summarized when someone on air made mention of the listening experience being comparable to eavesdropping on an intimate conversation. I cracked a wry smile at that statement, because it was very much how I felt. I didn't feel like I was a listener of a show, I felt like I had tuned in to a room of people talking amongst themselves, with no involvement of myself whatsoever. What's worse, is the conversation consisted mostly just of them simply chatting about someone they owed a beer to, but weren't sure when they were going to get a chance to buy them that beer since they had a super busy weekend ahead.

I vaguely recall at one point they did a "site review." Not sure what the URL was, or if they even mentioned it on air, but the review consisted of them asking each other "Is this a ____ site? What type of site do you suppose this is?" and "I wonder who runs this.." and then that was about it & they were back to making other small talk, about other things. It certainly was no incentive to go check out the site, whatever it was...

Talk shows are great, they really are. They have the potential to be educational, they really do. However, I did not feel as though I was learning anything except how to sleep with my eyes open, and the "eavesdropping on an intimate conversation" impression was incredibly boring, as the "intimate conversation" consisted of small talk.

I might also mention that the re-airing of the show which my friend who I originally tuned in to listen to, never re-aired. It was supposedly supposed to go on at 9pm EST and it never came on air.

Maybe I just tuned in at an incredibly awful time.
