That is actually one of my arguments *against* the death penalty. Most people would rather be dead than in jail. For some crimes, life imprisonment in the hell of a maximum security prison is a much more fit punishment.
But I didn't want to discuss the pros and cons of the death penalty, just this specific case and whether clemency would be in the best interests of society.
