I enjoy buying the premium pasta from the refrigerator case, Butoni, etc. And the difference in taste there to boxed is likewise so amazing.
I've heard making pasta can be a bitch. As you had said, getting the right blend together, especially the first time, can take some doing.
KitchenAid has a very nice pasta attachment for it's mixer. I'm thinking that's the way to go as opposed to a one-job-only pasta machine.
