I did buy a tft but gave it to the missus and got myself an oldschool one for less than 1/2 the price.
Trouble is finding a store where they have all the monitors set up for you to play with them for about an hour to give them a true test.

Not being a designer allows me to use a flatscreen, but I had to turn the brightness right down because surfing Oprano damn near burned my retinas out.
They do clear a helluva lot of space up on the desk as well.
