One of my favourites is actually on a vinyl-cut piece of art done by the brother of my best friend.

It features an alligator, with a very full belly, using a toothpick to clean his teeth. Beside him is the remains of what is clearly a missionary...a skull, bible, pair of glasses...

The title of the piece is 'Trust in God...but tie up your alligator'.

I've always explained it to my kids as meaning there is no substitute for taking all possible precautions...they have to learn to look after, and ensure the safety of, themselves.
