None of the local experts I have consulted agree. The checkout girl in the grocery store her in town is convinced that God allowed the hurricane to strike New Orleans because of the perversions of Mardi Gras. The guy who works for my brother-in-law (and he spent five days in New Oleans on his high school senior trip) is convinced that the breakdown in law and order is because they are almost all niggers down there, and a lot of the white people talk real goddamned funny too. The barista at the local coffee house is, like, really unsure because, like, all these people are living, like, below sea level anyway, and, like, couldn't they have just covered all those, like, pumps; and where is the relief effort for all the dogs and cats, anyway? Why aren't they being moved to shelters in other states? I was unable to reach Tony at his transmission shop for his opinion, but assuming he stayed consistant with his normal opinions, U.S. membership in the U.N. will have some bearing on it.
