would have been on the tube going across kings cross, for a meeting i had, if my son hadn't slept in.

felt surreal. saved the two daily newspapers from the day before (when london was told it had won the olympic bid for 2012 as huge underdogs to Paris), and then the bombs went off, and headlines were so shocking.

I remember watching the british news thinking back to the IRA bombings.

Anyway, after that I stayed at the Grove Hotel in Watford (voted best hotel in britain last year), which was very modern and well decorated. 42 inch plasma's in every room, for example, and 4 helicopters coming back and forward all day, ferrying people to the F1 at sliverstone. 250 quid a night, but worth every penny.

on reflection i am beginning to think that england has actually become much cheaper in lots of ways. Yes petrol is still expensive, but groceries, and choice are way better, and much cheaper in general.

I bought stacks of new gear while i was there, to someway compensate for the wife putting a small country's GDP on our credit card. Vert affordable really.

Anyway, back in sunny vancouver, looking forward to golfing with Nick this friday...

shine on....
