You have to make sure the persons time is covered for all hours spent working on maintaining the program, posting on boards etc which builds the brand of your program but doesn't necessarily get trackable affiliates straight away.
But you have to either have someone who knows exactly what they are doing and doesn't need supervising (hard to find) who should be paid a good salary plus a bonus structure for results achieved, or if you go the current trend of hiring some idiot with big tits you will need to map out what the person is doing exactly so time isn't wasted ...
The last thing you want is someone like Candice who trolls the boards posting 1 liners or the opposite, someone like Cory who in a matter of a few months has ruined a brilliant program by being an ass.
One thing I can say for certain is if you get the right person LOOK AFTER THEM, because most affiliates are loyal to a good affiliate manager, not the program he/she manages ;-)
