A guy I bowl with manages a check cashing store and is amazed at even how many "well off" people use his store. Even casino supervisors who are making over $125K a year...
They are great because there is a lot of recurring income. People get into a cycle of having to use them. He also said 25% of their income is from selling extras like monye orders, stamps, phone cards, etc. As soon as someone gets their cash the cashier upsells them these things.
He's trying to talk to store owner into doing it online (he has 12 physical stores in Nevada and is exploring possibly doing them via the Internet).
