I read it is approaching 45k dead.

The US always helps, we are normally the first and most charitable country. No other country can match the aid we have sent around the world since the 1940s.

It is sadd what happened. The scientists and others knew of the earthquake, there was time to warn people on the beaches, and near the water that the wave was coming - but it did not happen.

Lots of people actually CAME to the sea because word got out about all the wierd movements in the water. :-(
