I respect well travelled people, particularly those who do it independently and at ground level instead of staying at the Hilton and doing guided tours.
I 've seen both sides.

From being thrown into a ditch and smothered by my father in Lagos to protect me from a guy driving a petrol tanker into a Gov't building (Yeah there was suicide bombers even then)

Having a stone throwing fight in Tripoli...

To cruising accross the Atlantic in a penthouse on the QE2 at least 8 times

Flown Concorde probably 10 times....

guess which is better?

;-)))

Oh , you wouldn't know...would you?

You've only slummed it.

;-)))
Which is better depends of what you like.

When I travel I prefer to stay in a youth hostel instead of a hotel. I prefer to walk or take the metro instead of catching a cab. I avoid the tourist strips and find places filled with locals. I like to talk to people and find out how those in other countries see the world.

Sure I like slumming it, but I've seen the other side as well. You know nothing about what I can and cannot afford. I just think backpacking is a better way to travel.
