My 12 year old daughter put it to me this way. "Dad, mom got mad at me for saying a dirty word. She doesn't understand. I'm that age now, 12 year olds cuss. We just don't normally do it in front of our parents. Dad, think back, when you were 12 didn't you cuss?"
