It helps to cut down the roving idiot factor by about 99.99%...unfortunately, it seems to generate an abundance of like-minded thought; which is not so terrible a climate to do business in but I'm guessing would get rather mundane for a general chat board like Oprano. The Labret's of the world cannot flourish under such conditions, which lowers the entertainment value considerably. I don't see a need for password protection when it's so easy and quick to lock the morons out.
