1) My Dad was in the AF
2) AF has more technical jobs which is what he's interested in
3) Most importantly, the chances of him ever seeing combat in the AF (he's too blind to ever fly) are basically nil, whereas the Army combat chances are much higher and he wants to make sure his mother doesn't worry 24/7.
