My grandfather's brother Michael left Russia to Palestine in 1911 because he didn't wanna serve in Russian Army.
In 1914 the WWI started and Ottoman Turks tried to get him into the Turkish Army.
He left his wife and son and went to America. He fell in love with USA and volunteered into US Army and died in Verden in 1918...
I have his round army tag with his serial number...
Funny Serge, we have similar stories...

My great grandfather deserted the Russian army, when they were going
to fight the Sino-Japanese war, and eventually emigrated to America.
He refused to fight a country he'd never heard of...
