My theory was that you can fake violence and viewers know someone didn't REALLY die or bleed out on the street. But it's a little harder to fake sex - they really ARE touching, kissing, licking and such.
The video store used to laugh at me when I rented PG-13 or R movies for the kid - violence? Fine. Sex? Forget it. Now he's a non-violent horndog.
