For me, it's about the actions one hopes to achieve and whether it is realistic they will be achieved.
I don't get the "freedom fries" thing because I don't think it will achive the desired action. What IS the purpose?
I don't get the French boycott thing because I don't think it will achieve the desired action. Maybe even the opposite. Lots of Coca and Big Macs sold in France.
I don't get the peace protest thing because I don't seen many people with signs that say "Stop the war". Instead, I see signs that say "Bush is after oil", 'Bush is Hitler", etc. Only about 10% of the signs contain the war "peace". I counted 5 of 54. The large majority of signs are anti-Bush, NOT pro-peace. That violence that has erupted at many of the protests has not escaped anyone's attention. It's not going to stop the war. What is the purpose?
The pro-troop protests have a goal and it is achievable, to send the message to the troops and increase their morale. Some of the troops still enroute will certainly see them and know that they have some support at home.
Regardless, people should rally all they want but the people sitting in the middle of the street breaking the law should be arrested and detained until the end of the war. ;-)
