People who suggest that they support our troops but not the war they're fighting are intellectually dishonest. Is there any other profession where you can support the people but not their goals?
Let me be the first to call bullshit on this line of thinking.

"I support the carpenters, but I don't want them to build that house."
I support the carpenters, but the general contractor's way of doing things is not cost-effective. Not to mention he's an asshole. Good thing I have faith in the experience and talent of the carpenters.

"I support the Broncos, but I want the Steelers to win."
Kind of a stupid analogy, really. No one wants the other side to win. But I'll go with it. I support the Broncos, but their coach's game plan sucks. All the team can do is play their best.

"I support the firefighters, but I don't want them to put out that fire."
I support the firefighters, but I'd like to know why their Captain felt it was necessary to ring the house with kerosene. Again, I'm glad I can trust the firefighters themselves to do the best they can with what they've got.

So, if you oppose the war, especially at this point, please don't say you support out troops, because you don't, even if you can't admit it. Resisting the urge to spit on our troops isn't supporting them.
Some of us actually have the intellectual capacity to understand that the troops are carrying out their DUTY, and as such we can fully support THEM, even though we might disagree with the dickhead giving the orders, and his reasons for doing so.

I see no conflict whatsoever in opposing the way this was done, and the reasoning behind it, while still hoping and praying that the military personnel carrying out their orders will come home quickly and ALIVE. My argument is not with the people in the line of fire, it's with the ones who are safely ensconced several thousand miles away whose reasons and justification remain suspect in my own mind.

And I'm not altogether sure I'm a "Liberal" as most people seem to define it. Unless of course that definition is, "someone who doesn't agree with Buff."
