I am not shocked that Playboy is dumping the zoo. I can picture Playboy dumping pretty much all of their online properties, taking back their signature domain, and turning it from XXX rated back to the X rated and "articles" site that reflects and supports the magazine, rather than the other way around. I expect to see them shed their programs in the next 90 - 120 days, I am guessing.

I may be wrong, but I think that is where they are heading.

As for AVN, well, they seem to be working to be one of the last men standing in a fight with no prize at the end.

I don't know about the 401K, but AVN had been on a 4 day week for quite some time already. At least 2 years. They've scaled back considerably and now there is but 1 employee remaining on a 4 day work-week. The rest have regular days/hours.

It's fun to watch all the speculation about AVN, GFY, who owns what, who's buying who, etc. I'm glad the acquisition is finally public knowledge.

Confirmed. In a fit of stupid, they decided to keep Eric on board. He is probably one of the reasons the place sucks so bad.

Playboy has the right idea. Get far enough away from hardcore porn so you can market your bunny brand as sexy and sophisticated, not dirty and nasty.

I am going to add this:

Some of this makes me think that the "webmaster" thing is dead, that soon enough most of the programs will dry up and websites will be run only by producer companies. Rather than selling their content to other sites, they will just keep the deal in house, stop licensing DVDs for web use besides their own, and call it a day. After all, if they have the content, they are golden.

Don't be surprised if you find Manwin's hand up AVN's ass on much of this.

I think GFY hasnt been a webmaster board in years. maybe 5 percent on that board actually work in adult. Webmaster boards are oprano, med pimpin the tone is different and you dont see wars like you see there. I bet they plan on making a big surfer board with a vod.

Hef's buy back will no doubt find the company focused on the brand and the image. That's actually smart as that is the true value in playboy and what separates it from just being another company producing nudie pics and films.

Now, they still have issues to solve as print media in general is on the decline and they HAVE to evolve. BUT, in no way shape or form does GFY fit with anything Hef is likely to envision. So it makes sense to dump it and get what you can for it.

On the buying in, why keep Eric? Well, that's not necessarily a bad idea either. You likely buy it based on what it is right now and whatever revenue it produces. If you dump Eric, you likely dump a lot of the relationships that yield whatever revenue is left over there.

So you keep him at least for a while. The bigger question is what do the buyers really want with it and AVN?

Ran smartly, a board is almost pure profit, but it's still a shrinking market especially if your sole revenue stream for it is affiliate program advertising.

Well, consider this: The real reason to run a board at this point is to guide people to your webmaster / porn conventions and shows.

That WAS one of the reasons for certain. But that's also a shrinking market, and I suspect one that is somewhat high risk at this point due to the upfront commitment it takes to pull one off. People aren't as willing to pay to go to them, and sponsors aren't as willing to throw money at them.

Are you saying that GFY.com was sold for only 401K? That would be a bargain. Can someone explain me why the hell there was no auction for this one? From a logical point of view Playboy should auction it to get the best price as possible, am I wrong?

Saw some speculation that GFY went for at least a million and the playa playas figuring it was worth at least $2 million.

Maybe several years back.

Right now, with an income model based on affiliate advertising, I'd be shocked if it went for more than $500K.
