Suggestions Please
Ok, so, Dad has a Golf group, and he writes a weekly column thing for his group of old dudes that raid the courses.
Suggestions for the easiest integrationable blog thing that will allow him to write his weekly blog thing, with comments from the guys? I'd like it simple, and preferably a freebie. I shall bow to those of you that know this stuff better than I? |
Re: Suggestions Please
Wordpress is pretty easy. If I can do it, anyone can.

Re: Suggestions Please
wordpress would work, you could set up each of the "guys" as authors, and allow comments only from registered users, don't let anyone else sign up. Hold all comments from non-registered users for approval (in case people pingback spam you) and you are pretty much good to go. Each of them would be able to write articles, and comment on the other articles.

Re: Suggestions Please
Wordpress is your best choice for an integrated Blog. There is all sorts of bells & whistles for it (that you don't really need, but can be fun to play with) and it's easy to maintain.
You can also go and get a blogger.com account, and just link to it. That is VERY easy to set up and use. |
Re: Suggestions Please
Have to agree that wordpress is top choice.
My only concern is that wordpress updates every week or so it seems...making maintaining it a bitch sometimes when themes arent compatible and such Id look at setting him up a blog on blogspot or something like that...that way the day to day maintenance is done elsewhere but he can still do what you want |
Re: Suggestions Please
Well... I will also vote for Wordpress because in this case the user is inexperienced and some blog scripts and especially Content Management Systems (CMS) are very hard to manage because they require big technical knowledge. Wordpress is one of the best blogging scripts available for free, but if you want to customize it you will certainly need to invest some money. There are many themes, but the good ones are overused so you will most likely need to invest money in the design if you want to make your website to look unique. There are SEO and other plug-ins for Wordpress so cusomizing the website is not a problem at all and even a very beginner users is able to install a wordpress plug-in.
If you are looking for more than a blog script use CMS because you can add custom pages, etc. I would recommend using Joomla. |
Re: Suggestions Please
Thanks all. That's what I was looking for. a Good consensus before I wasted time wading through crap.
I'll have a bash at the wordpress, and fallback to the other if that doesn't fit. But he doesn't need anything fancy, so if I color within the lines, we should be good. And keep Dad happy.... |
