SECAUCUS - Call it convention interruptus.

Mayor Dennis Elwell and other town officials scheduled a noon press conference today to announce they are taking legal action to prevent a three-day pornography industry convention scheduled to start Friday at the Meadowlands Convention Center from taking place.

"A pornographic convention where alcohol is served in violation of state law and at a facility adjacent to a nursery school and playground is not the sort of atmosphere I'll allow in Secaucus," Elwell said in a press statement.

According to Elwell, one of the exhibits at the convention - known as eXXXoticany - is called "violent dehumanization."

An eXXXoticany representative couldn't be reached last night to comment.

Basically, it's a raincoater & drooler show, and they got caught out in a facility that was serving booze and was also very close to a school / church / other that violates zoning laws. I am not, however, clear on if zoning laws can legally be applied to a short run show, as opposed to the type of business run overall.

They have relocated the show down the road a little bit to avoid this very uptight political type.

I grew up from down the road from their new location in Edison. Its a very industrial area they are in now and I will be surprised if they get more than just the die-hard fans that would go anywhere to meet a pornstar.

Thr Raritan Center is more of an industrial trucking/warehouse hub than real convention area, however a lot could have changed in the past 15 years. There's nothing to do at night other than to go to the hotel bar. And its a good 45 minutes from NYC.

And for the most part central NJ is not a hot bed of porn fans... Whenever I went home and talked about being a lawyer in the industry I usually received some really odd looks.

This show should be in NYC.

Actually, not really. New York is freaking expensive to do a show like this, expensive for almost anything. Heck, why do you think the sports teams moved to Jersey? Plus the end user of porn is more likely in Jersey, and less likely to be in New York, I would suspect.
