a question for the berns steakhouse experts

Going to be in tampa was thinking of going to berns. It would be during the week. I see on their site it says business casual no jeans. Do they really hold to that rule?

Berns is formal & upscale tourist restaurant/wine cellar show.
Formal wear is appreciated but not required.
I see guys in jeans a few times there, but no tang top type shit either.

I'm usually there most evenings. if ya would like to catch up... :bustingup

Dress casual and you will be lucky to eat at the bar.

if you grease the maitre d a C note you might get a table wearing jeans of its a slow night

For the dining room, they do enforce it. If you do grease your way in, you'll feel underdressed in anything less than khakis and an oxford.

The dessert rooms are very private though, you can unbutton a couple of buttons once you get there.

Hmmm.. sounds like a place I may have to check out. I love good steakhouses. Hate being told how to dress for dinner though. There's a couple of places here in Seattle I refuse to go because of their dress code. I can dress nice with the best of them, but why if you don't have to.

BTW.. Tony, were you in Vegas for Internext? How did I manage to not run into you?!

Comparing Berns to Delmonicos...
Delmonicos comes in a far second.
And you know how serious we take that Delmonicos meal every year.

The steak is only the begining. They have a page just on how it is to be prepared. The crust has several paragraphs alone.

If you order a 12 oz steak that is how much it weighs when it is cooked and served to you.

Its the finest meal I have had and all this talk and I keep looking for a cheap flight just to go down there to have dinner.

Let's put it this way. I'd wear a cocktail dress if I had to in order to get in Berns anytime I'm in Tampa.

And it's not just the steak. Old man Berns is dead, but the family has kept his practices alive. It's total control. Their farms raise the cattle, grow the grain fed to the cattle, grows the vegetables that are used for the sides, etc. No expense spared.

Prefer fresh seafood? They have gigantic tanks their on site, the fish is still swimming a short time before he is cooked up and served.

Not a cheap meal by any stretch, and they do expect dress to match the overall experience. There's an Outback nearby if you prefer sweatpants.

Nah I don't like the Met. I love Daniels Broiler in Bellevue and on Lake Union and El Gauchos in Seattle and in Tacoma.

They are just trying to establish an atmosphere. How would you like to be out, dressed nice and have someone show up dressed like a slob. Yes, I know that may be far fetched. Just go with the flow, relax and enjoy it. I don't like all of the rules that govern the neighborhood that I live in but then neither do I have to worry about a car being parked up on blocks for an extended period of time with grass growing through the hood either.

BTW if there is any chance that you might need or just want to discuss hosting while you are in the area, hit me up, at least it is always a good reason to meet and knock back a drink or two! :okthumb:

I am most likely going to be down there and through ATL both sometime in late March or early April we should do a place to eat, either there if you guys want to take a steak out road trip, or My favorite in ATL if you FFN's are up for it.
