Southern Webmaster Gathgering

Hi all, just wanted to stop by and tell you that FanTC and I are getting the Southern Webmaster Gathering planned for later this year. Looks like the last weekend in Oct. and will be held on the rebuilding Mississippi gulf coast. Many of the casinos are back in operation, the Hard Rock cafe just opened, Emeril Lagasse opened a new restaurant and there are 28 miles of white sandy beaches. We figure a weekend of meeting others in the adult online business for networking, sharing ideas, etc. might be good for everyone in the area. We have commitments from 7 or 8 with quite a few maybes. Chadknowslaw is a lawyer in AZ and said he could speak on 2257 and other issues that affect us all.

Anyway, just wanted to get the word out a little and see who might like to get together for a weekend of shaking hands and talking with people we do business with but haven't met in person.

Any comments?

I'm in Mobile, 5 hours from Atlanta, Biloxi is only another two hours...:)

Forgot to mention, there's a slight chance that some very well known webmasters will be there. :yowsa:

Yes, FanTC says it's a little more re-built than Gulfport and there is a nice ariport in Biloxi for anyone that wants to fly in.

Nope, the airport is in Gulfport, but it's called Gulfport/Biloxi International

This has high potential. We considered havingthe Fat Fucking Summit there earlier this year but opted for Memphis instead.

Re: Southern Webmaster Gathgering

For anybody not familiar with the Mississippi Coast other than that we were ground zero for Katrina and all but wiped off the face of the planet, the rebuilding is going strong and fast. We have 13 world class casinos back open from Bay St. Louis to Biloxi including Beau Rivage, IP, Treasure Bay, Biloxi Grand, the brand spanking new Hard Rock(opened last week), and Island View in Gulfport. Island View is the home of Emeril's new Gulf Coast Fish House.
We have 26 miles of public beach, some of the best deep sea fishing anywhere, about a dozen great golf courses for golfers, and the best seafood to be found anywhere.
Accomodations are fair priced, ranging from economy inn and standard hotels at about 39 a night to the casino suites going for upwards of 5k.
There's a new airline that started service last month with routes to and from Vegas and Orlando with $89 flights.
I believe groundbreaking began last week in Biloxi on the world's first and only Margaritaville Casino Resort. It's due for opening in 2010, along with the cumulative total of 35 casinos in Biloxi.
If anybody needs any info on the area or anything, just give me a yell and I'll point you in the right direction.

Thats what I dont get. The coast here has long been the hidden secret jewel. Vegas is big and sprawled out and got tons of activity... and they have... desert. The coast has tons of things to appeal to everyone, adult, family, etc. Memphis is ok, but it's still not got nearly the amenities.

I'm prolly biased, but I think the coast is the cat's meow. Plus, the business in this area is greatly beneficial to the recovery. Location is prime, and the prices are generally right. And every day things just get a little bit better.

Memphis has Beal Street and that alone is worth going there for if you like music at all.

Then come to meet other webmasters over drinks (and if you don't drink liquor I'm sure they can find you a soda, coffee or tea) Can't hurt networking with others in the industry, making new friends and getting to know one another.

oh, i was referring to your "selling" of the area

like I said previously, we will be driving to new orleans right before then, no way we will be heading back down there again a week later....if it was another time, then definitely

Depends on the exact dates. October is actually pretty booked for me as well. And like Jace, I hate to fly in from one thing and head right back out to another. Need some heal up time.

But a gathering on the gulf coast is definitely something that would normally appeal to me.

Please add Connor Young and myself from YNOT to the "maybe" list.

If this happens in Biloxi the weekend of Oct 26-28, it might just have "road trip" written all over it for us.

I went back and re-read this a couple of times. Is there a "host" hotel where most folks will be staying? It will be difficult to get together with as spread out as things are there without a central location. Now, I haven't been there since January and other than the casinos there wasn't much to do.

I am interested. I have lots of family in that area.

Oh...and Gulfport/Biloxi International Airport is about the size of my apartment building..so no getting lost.:okthumb:

I flew into Gulfport once. They had to scare the farm animals off the runway before we could land.

Also, we had rented a car and I selected "luxury" class. They had to bring one down from somewhere just for us. And all the employees from the other rental counters (both of 'em) came over to see who was getting the cadillac, like we were celebrities or something. True story, no BS.

I get the impression this is in the "formulative" stages. I haven't seen a hotel recommendation. I'd be very partial to Beau Rivage just due to familiarity and the fact it's an MGM property myself. I'd consider others simply because they're all essentially new at this point thanks to Katrina.

Re: Southern Webmaster Gathgering

I stayed at the Imperial Palace. It wasn't as bad as the one in Vegas, which I will not even walk by!

Beau Rivage would be my suggestion too, but I am open to suggestions.

I'll actually be in the area in August. I am looking forward to see what has been done in the 6 months since I was last there.
