Adjusting to a changing market.....
TIVO's and DVR's have made their way into a great many households in america today and, as Peaches and others here are fond to point out, allows them to easily and quickly skip the commercials. Well, the producers of Lost are looking at a way to get around this in a novel way that still allows the viewers to skip them if they want. As our nation also starts spenidng more and more time onliuen and playing games the producers of Lost are going to launch a game called The Lost Experience onlimne later this summer. It's an alternate reality game similar to one the show Alias did and was quite popular with it's fans. How does this tie into the commercials? Well, clues to the game are going to be embedded into the commercials for lost starting in sweeps week. A great way to get people to pay closer attention to or not skip the advertising your advertisers pay for.

talk shows make more money by advertising within their program than they tv stations do with regular commercials. comedy shows are also doing the same here. |

Re: Adjusting to a changing market.....
If you think about it that's how ads were done on early TV, right in the show by the personalties from the show
Guess at some time it became more cost effective to do ad spots (I really don't know how TV commercials evolved) now it's back to being in the show, radio has been doing it for a while now Or maybe this is the next step in evolution of ads, embedded game active ads |

on tv programs i can hang if they do it like they do here (talk shows specially we are streaming a local show that has become pretty popular and their advertising style is tastefull) every time after and before the break they talk about a product or sometimes even dedicate time to review it. if they do it with style it is ok if they bluntly advertise then it sucks the advantage is that ratings will dictate the style and erradicate bluntness people will simply tune out if advertising sucks. |

Re: Adjusting to a changing market.....
That is a great idea! I know advertisers hate that we use DVR's and Tivo's to skip commercials, but this idea is not such a breakthrough. Back in the day, people would take shows on their VCR's and fast forward through the commercials.
