Anyone familiar with dvd authoring and burning?

I have some VOB files that are fine when I view them locally, but when I go to burn them in Nero the audio on the first segment always goes off....and sometimes it happens to the other segments as well

is nero at fault for this? and can anyone recommend me a good dvd burning program other than nero?
