What is the Internet to you?

Obviously to many of us it is a money making vehicle but after that what is the internet to you

To me it's a world full of information at my fingertips
Shopping, including comparison shopping, I don't make any substantial purchases without researching online first
Very little if any entertainment
A little keeping in touch with family, friends


If you have the inclination I'd sincerely like to hear what the internet is to you

Pretty much what you said:

Info (loads of it - I bet I've found 99% of what I've needed to find about anything I've need to find it on)
Shopping - I hate malls
Contact with friends and family
Some entertainment
School - 2 of my classes now are online and all three were online last semester

I listen to the radio all day through the web. Because Spanish radio sucks rancid arse.

Keep in touch with family, only see them once a year,
so it's good to fire up the webcam for a chat.

Don't shop much online because of postage costs, I can usually find things cheaper here, but I do research purchases.

I read alot of the English news sites, rather than buy papers.

You pretty much summed it up for me, Vick.

I use it for news, as we don't watch news in my house after 9/11.

Nearly all my shopping that isn't grocery store type of stuff is done online. And if they had any online grocery service in my area, I'd probably use that too.

It is my preferred method of contact for family and friends as I don't like to talk on the phone.

I took nearly 3 years of classes online, so it was very handy for that.

From the perspective of someone living in a very small rural town, it enriches my life in many ways by giving me opportunities I would not otherwise have. (or wouldn't have without alot of hassle)

Those opportunities may be informational, income producing, educational, etc.

I was talking to my son about the internet. I remember back in the days when I got frustrated because no one I knew had email yet. Citibank offered businesses online banking really early like 1992 or something so I was already hooked on that.



So my son asked me what I would do if I didn’t have a computer or internet access. I told him I’d kill myself! Lol- Lets face it, everything I do involves the web to some degree.

Work, play, and news. Every morning I wake up and the first thing I do is go to the following sites usually in this order.

I obviously don't read everything but I go to the Washington and New York papers for politics information and the Wisconsin and chicago papers primarily for Packers and Cubs news though I read both the Milwaukee and madison papers for any state news as well.

From this small sample the idea would be to build a better search engine (in terms of exposure, hype, advertising and product) and don't think I can really do that
