YNOT Radio...

....just listened to it for the first time, because a friend who was on air last week was supposed to have the "show" re-aired this week...

Now, I mean no offense to people who may be involved in YNOT Radio, but honestly... that was the most boring 3 hours of my life.

I tuned in at 4:30pm Pacific time approx... and the quality of sound was terrible. It reminded me terribly, of talking through a tin can. Might've been the phone connection, I'm not sure... either way it was bad. It was also boring. REALLY boring.

I think the worst part was when when an advertisement came on that boasted of how 'YNOT Radio is talking MORE THAN EVER' (an advertisement which played twice, back to back) because that was at about 6:40 and I still hadn't heard a single song. Seemed like talking & ads was about all there was. Talking, and when I tried to tune that out, my attention was diverted to the looped 1 or 2 minute background "sound." It made elevator music sound melodical in comparison, seriously. And it looped. Repeatedly.

The experience was very adeptly summarized when someone on air made mention of the listening experience being comparable to eavesdropping on an intimate conversation. I cracked a wry smile at that statement, because it was very much how I felt. I didn't feel like I was a listener of a show, I felt like I had tuned in to a room of people talking amongst themselves, with no involvement of myself whatsoever. What's worse, is the conversation consisted mostly just of them simply chatting about someone they owed a beer to, but weren't sure when they were going to get a chance to buy them that beer since they had a super busy weekend ahead.

I vaguely recall at one point they did a "site review." Not sure what the URL was, or if they even mentioned it on air, but the review consisted of them asking each other "Is this a ____ site? What type of site do you suppose this is?" and "I wonder who runs this.." and then that was about it & they were back to making other small talk, about other things. It certainly was no incentive to go check out the site, whatever it was...

Talk shows are great, they really are. They have the potential to be educational, they really do. However, I did not feel as though I was learning anything except how to sleep with my eyes open, and the "eavesdropping on an intimate conversation" impression was incredibly boring, as the "intimate conversation" consisted of small talk.

I might also mention that the re-airing of the show which my friend who I originally tuned in to listen to, never re-aired. It was supposedly supposed to go on at 9pm EST and it never came on air.

Maybe I just tuned in at an incredibly awful time.

welcome to the wonderful world of webmaster radio

the way they work the show is, everyone who knows someone that has something to with it, "gets it", the random listener has no clue what is happening....at least that is what I have figured out and why I don't listen to anything except music

Sin 01-30-2006 11:20 PM

When it comes right down to it, I really don't care who owes who a beer... lol

I listened to your radio once Jace, I liked it! :) :okthumb: :okthumb:

Re: YNOT Radio...

I haven’t listened to Ynot radio in a while. However I do remember LAJ and Ynot Bob had the lady who committed the finger scam on Wendy’s on the air one day.

They told her she was being interviewed by CNN or some such shit. Anyway they told her they heard of plans to make the whole ordeal into a T.V movie and she would be played by Cybil Shepard.

Well this “Wacko” lady fell for the whole thing :mental: and kept going on and on about how she would rather have Eva Longoria play her instead.

Guess you needed to hear it, but it was some funny shit.

Re: YNOT Radio...

See now that sounds like something that could be mildly entertaining. Tonight wasn't... maybe I just managed to catch Ynot's worst 3 hours of their radio history...

I enjoy listening to punker barbie and Vanilla once in a while. Punker is a sweetie and Vanilla is always interesting and they usually have good guests on and talk about both busienss and "shoot the shit" type of stuff. :)

It was more than one show that I heard in the 3 hour span that I was tuned in.

I posted about my experience to find out if anybody else had perhaps had better experiences

Not to be pissy cause I would never do that.. But, movies, restaurants, plays, TV shows etc usually get reviewed on a "one shot" type deal, why should a radio show be different ?

Since you put it that way...

I enjoy listening to Twinkley on Friday on occassion.
I also enjoy listening to Dokk infrequently as well.
I used to enjoy listening to Hammer's show more frequently.
Bob and Jay are entertaining.
Loki is just insane and he tries very hard not to have a scrap of business during the time he broadcasts!

I havent heard a hard hitting business show since the last time I heard CJ's voice though. I can tell you from experience that if you ask too many people for honest answers or expose scammers for what they are... you will find that there are many pigs that will run from the gun.

In otherwords they wont talk to you for fear of what you might bring to light about them. For the most part at least for me I find webmaster radio to be pretty much for entertainment.

Jace has made me go out and buy CDs for sure over the last few weeks.

I love YNOT and the guys are always willing to help people any chance they get .

The YNOT humpday show has help many many webmaster that are new like you Sin , to become successful

( I am not sure wich of the programs you heard)

But I have had tremendous good experiences with the information I gathered from the YNOT shows in the past .

I listen every chance I get to do so . :okthumb:

Keep up the good work Bob, and LAJ

honestly bob - I listen to http://www.radiofreecolorado.net/

it has music I like and not rap or hard stuff - and few commercials. The problem with ynotradio (and you know my love for ynot) is that the station is more commercial and the music is geared to the younger audience and not my style.

Re: YNOT Radio...

I think the problem with trying to run a radio station with music is that it's not going to appeal to anyone really if they don't come up with some kind of format. You can't just play random styles of music hoping to appeal to everyone. If I want to listen to jazz I'll put in a CD or listen to a jazz station and the same thing for rock, country, etc. I'm not going to listen to a radio station that plays Garth Brooks, then Michael Jackson, then Talking Heads, then NIN, etc.

As for the talk shows, most of them are boring but I do like to tune into the Humpday because they have some good guests and Bob and LAJ at least have something inetersting to say. I haven't caught Eric Bernstein's show yet but I would think it would be good.

Why, you can find information on most radio events right here.

BTW ... if you know of any modifications of that schedule, let Dravyk or me know and we'll get it corrected/added/updated.

Re: YNOT Radio...

Thank all of you for bringing up your arguments to what you do or don't like about the radio station.

I am in charge of the programming on the radio station. Now when it comes to the music. I have a designed format. I went through hours upon hours of research to find songs that you would hear in strip clubs so that the music that you hear would be raunchy and adult and uncensored. I noticed that a lot of the webmasters are young (20s and 30s) and that's why I play the music I play. In the last two weeks, I changed the station's rotation to increase the amount of alternative music being played on the radio station.

Now as for the beer references, that was from one of the mainstream radio shows that we run on the station off another station off of the satellites.

Now, understand that YNOT Radio has undergone some major changes in the past six months. The references to shows and music from some of you are dated and they occurred before I took over the job of programming the radio station.

I have an open door policy for music and all programming suggestions. I'm programming this station for all of you that want a great webmaster radio station. I have no problem making changes if it means i'm going to bring in new or returning listeners.

Feel free to email me at brasco@ynotradio.com and I'm more than happy to answer any questions or make any changes that you think I need to make to the radio station. Ask anyone, I listen to the listeners. Whatever I can do to make YNOT Radio a station you want to listen to all day and all night let me know. You don't have to resort to complaining to the Oprano message boards, ...talk ...to .me :clapping: .

Thank you for listening and if you have listened in a long time, and you know who you are, listen to what you have been missing.

Jbrasco, good to chat with you on ICQ.

I said it before & I'll repeat it here again, I did finally hear the show that I was tuned in to hear, and the reason I didn't hear it the first time was not a fault of YNOT radio it was the fault of my informant.

Not only that but by the looks of it, the segment I heard wasn't even Ynot radio's regular programming it's a segment from a mainstream radio show...

When I did hear the show I had tuned in to hear, my impression of Ynot radio was VASTLY improved, :okthumb: :okthumb: and I want to apologize for I did not start this thread with intention of 'causing trouble' I started it because I was hoping to hear good things about Ynot from others who had listened to it (since this had been my first experience with the station) ....and I got that. Lots of positive feedback in this thread from others who have listened & thank you jbrasco for clearing it up for me :)

Okay, let me repeat, I wanted to find out if others perhaps had better experiences. It would appear they did, and in fact once I got a chance to hear the show I was wanting to hear, I had a better experience too.

As far as me being "that bored" to be blunt, yes, after the 3 hrs I listened to, I was. I'm sorry if you don't like feedback that is negative, even if it is from a 1st time listener. I'll be blunt again, by posting it on the boards, I've had a chance to hear about other ppl's experience with the station, and judging by the thread, looks like the majoroity of them have been positive ones. Congrats! :okthumb:

The whole "down swing" and "day before your period" thing totally discredits whatever point you're trying to make in that sentence.

I'm already tuned in again thanks to the good conversation I had with Jbrasco (Again Jbrasco, thank you for taking the time to chat with me on ICQ, glad we had our chat) and as far as me answering my phone between noon and 1:30, that's fine I wouldn't be able to answer it even if I wanted to as I'm going to University & am never home in that time frame. :)

I don't think that anyone is complaining about the interviews and the shows themselves - it's the radio content, the music - the buffering - the repeated commercials.

I love YNOT, its my home - I just prefer radio that has music that I listen too and can work with - and few interruptions. The shows are awesome and I faithfully listen to humpday and pillowtalk weekly. YNOTRadio is the main source for anything adult news and entertainment (as it should be) - just at the moment, not my main place for music
