many conservative republicans talk like this. its their insatiable quest for power, and their desire to make everybody be like them. they do a good job of convincing middle america... as they rob them blind and keep them poor to line their own pockets. the poor are too stupid to realize, blindly following the faith of "god." as the rich get richer through lower taxes. its sad really...

im still trying to figure out from the elections how a man with no military experience can come out smelling sweeter than a man who served, or why changing your mind on an issue (aka "flip flopping") is a bad idea. buy a stock or investment, make a decision to hold it no matter what, and never change your mind on it as new info surfaces - we will see how quickly you lose money.

I have to take exception to the idea that GW has "no" military experience.

GW joined the Air National Guard in 1966 (+/-). After regular flight training he was assigned to a squadron with planes too obsolete to fight in either Vietnam on the the frontiers of the Cold War.

Now, remember - this is the Air National Guard of the Vietnam Era. This is not the Guard as we know it today. Positions in the guard, reserve, and U.S. Coast Guard were hard to come by, unless, of course, you had a daddy who was a Congressman from Texas favored by LBJ in spite of being from the other party. At times in Iraq 60% of the forces serving in theater have been Guard/Reserves. Something less than 10,000 Guard and Reservists IN TOTAL served in Vietnam between 1964 - 1975. Most estimates I've read suggest that close to 5,000,000 personnel rotated in and out.

[note - something less that 10,000 reservists were activated from reserve status and sent to Vietnam. There were millions of enlisted personnel and thousands of officers who signed up for the reserves (either for a shorter period of active service, or for a college education, flight school, etc. There service in Vietnam, while technically as reservists, was during the period of obligated service and should not be confused with being activated from civiliian life).

So my point is simple. GW has military experience. He learned his lessons well.

Get yourself in a nice safe place, wrap yourself in a flag, and and let somebody else go fight.

It's perfectly legal to own and fire, I have more problems with my AR-15 than the gattling gun, the ar is on the california assault ban list list, because it has a pistol grip, yet I have a M-1 carbine that shoots just as many bullets, bigger bullets and has a bayonette on it and it's not on the ban list, because it doesn't have a pistol grip? this state is weird!

nothing you said isn't true, but theres varying degrees to it. when republicans are in power, the gap between rich and poor widens vs what would've happened with kerry, not that that alone is a bad thing. i'd be remiss in saying its a republican thing, right now its a republican thing. its a product of republicans controlling the executive, legislative, and now the judiciary branches of gov't. if democrats controlled all 3, the same shit would probably happen. i'd be much more comfortable right now with a democratic president, a republican legislation body, and a split judiciary branch.

it just bothers me that republicans use dirty tactics to get in power by convincing those they prey on through moral and religious values. i like it when the checks and balances actually work how they should. middle america is clueless, they blindly follow religion, and republicans have done a successful, and extremely dirty job of painting all liberals as hippies to get their way.

btw, i would vote republican if there was a good candidate, and if there was diversity in the control of power between all 3 branches. and so long as morals and religion took a backseat to much more important issues like foriegn and domestic policy.

but i bet many conservative republicans would label me as a liberal...

The odd alignment of the parties is nothing new in American politics.

The Democratic majority in Congress between 1932 and the 1970s was an odd collection of very leftist Eastern and Northern liberals and some downright reactionary, blatantly racist Southerners.

Nixon began, and Reagan completed, a process of attracting certain elements from the Democratic party, with an emphasis on the South, which has helped created the Republican majority today.

I can remember Republicans in the 60s (New York Mayor John Lindsay and Illinois Senator Charles Percy, in particular) who would have no place in today's Republican Party. Many centerist and moderate Republicans have left that party as well.

I can conceive of circumstances where I could vote for McCain or Hegel. Spector is too old, and (without taking anything away from a brilliant, heroic effort in New York City on and after 9/11) I wouldn't trust Gulliani with national office.
