Should We start an Industry charity auction for the Hurricane relief?
I would be willing to promote it and help organise it as well as donating some design services to the effort
what are your thoughts? |
Re: Should We start an Industry charity auction for the Hurricane relief?
I was thinking of the same thing yesterday. I think we could raise a bunch of money.

I think if everyone just gives what they can to the Red Cross and the Salvation Army, it'll get where it needs to go a lot faster. Those folks are already on the ground, they need the money right now.

because neither Vick, nor me, want our help to go to looters. Billy and family, MikeAI's parents, Buff and g/f can stay with us while the city rebuilds, I wanna KNOW WHOM I help. |

One is in the works already. We designed Katrinacharityauction.com yesterday and I believe Nichepay will be making an announcement soon!

What amazes me the most (well maybe not) is how the citizens of New Orleans have acted (and these were not typical of the New Orleans citizens I've come to know) who immediately went to law of the jungle instead of helping each other. Compare the hands then went out during 9/11 to the guns that went up in the aftermath of Katerina WTF, sorry you can't eat that TV you just looted, there is no electricity for about 90 miles and I don't think anyone is buying it. Procuring food and water is fine, bring it on and I'll help, you have to live from some of the things I've seen I think my wallet is closed for "general" relief aid and that makes me sad, wish it wasn't that way Yes Serge and I pretty much feel the same about this and it can't be excused by saying they are "economically disadvantaged" |
Re: Should We start an Industry charity auction for the Hurricane relief?
I'm of two minds on this. http://oprano.com/msgboard/images/smilies/sad.gif
On the one hand I think we should help. On the other hand, I wonder if this is something that will make us all feel good, but not necessarily be of help to those who need it. That is my concern and I'm split right down the middle on it at the moment. |
Re: Should We start an Industry charity auction for the Hurricane relief?
Let me put it like this
You look at what the DirectNic crew has done and what much of the rest of the City did and you tell me WHERE SHOULD YOUR SUPPORT GO??!!! |

Re: Should We start an Industry charity auction for the Hurricane relief?
I can understand both schools of thought on this one, but there are plenty of innocents who need help. Children, the elderly and the infirm are not responsible for the looting, nor could they easily get out or find shelter on their own.
I can't look at that and not want to help in some way. |
